COPD?

Hello

I was diagnosed with asthma 5 years ago. I was then diagnosed with Brinchiectasis 4 years ago. The past year, my asthma has been playing up including a week in hospital.

I had lung function tests 2 weeks ago and my consultant said my FEV1 is 24% predicted. I am guessing this isn't great. Because of the lung function tests, the consultant had mentioned the possibility of COPD and is testing me for alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency amongst others.

Is the FEV1 of 24% very bad?

Brinchiectasis is a horrible disease that seems to

run alongside COPD/Asthma - lung function of 24% is very low so I am really pleased your consultant is checking A1AD - keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks Jane x

Good job you are under a consultant who will be your best guide at this time.

24% lung function is very low but depending on circumstances this could improve  with proper self care and that of your consultant,  guidance from BLF home pages, referral to PR etc, check with your consultant also how best to manage things.
