I discovered last night that I have genital herpes. I haven't been to the clinic to get it swabbed tested but I took a picture and showed it on here and I have all the symptoms of genital herpes. I'm 18 so I feel a sinking hole in my heart telling me it's over for me. But being on here and seeing the million people who discover they have this disease everyday is somehow empowering me to realise I'm not the only one. Also I found out that I still could have sex I would just have to be really careful about protection and outbreaks. I'm adjusting and doing better about trying to except it. And that this does get normal if I take my meds, then it'll hardly bother me unless it's a temporary outbreak. Reminds me of a yeast ok infection or period. Every girl has it, nobody wants to have sex while it's there.
Good attitude! But you should still get it swabbed and typed asap. Type matters. If HSV1, it's not too much of a concern, tbh. New partners may also want to know which type you have if and when you disclose.
i defiantly suggest you go get a swob test, it a lot better then self diagnosing. it will let you know if you have either HSV 1 or 2.
there is medication that you can take during an outbreak to make it heal faster which is valtrex however you won't be prescribed it unless you go to a doctor who will test you then give you the medication.
being a girl being able to say i'm on my period is a perfect excuse not to have sex if your too scared to tell the person your seeing but make sure you always use a condom and don't have sex while you have an outbreak. any skin to skin contact with someone else while you have an outbreak will give it to the other person.
i have only had one outbreak but valtrex helped mine clear up within 6 days of taking it 3 times a day.
so far i am living a normal life, but you really need to get a swob test to determine if you actually have it and what type.
your not alone xx
