So, about 2 weeks ago I had a drunken sexual encounter with my guy friends roommate. I was drunk and we didn't use protection and I have been tested before for std's so I didn't think anything of it but I know he sleeps around a lot. Well, I asked my friend if he knew if he roommate got checked or not. A few days later I kept having this urge to pee. First thing I thought was I have a std. Well, turns out I had an UTI, but on my UTI after taking antibiotics for about 4 days I did stuff with the same kid. About 3 days after it I started having problems where it burned when I pee'd. My friends said I probably just still had the UTI. Well, yesterday I couldn't ignore it anymore so I went to a clinic we have around here. I did a pee test and she said some results came back for an UTI, but than they did a pelvic exam. The lady kept saying "ohhhh looks like herpes, poor thing." I started bawling especially since I'm away at school and don't have my mother there for me. They said the results will be in on Friday. I'm not sure how to feel. I've been crying, or I get numb. I actually thought about ending my life. My mom told me to stop talking like that and that it is like any other disease that I will learn to live with, but it is so hard to look in the mirror. I've had other sexual partners, but I really feel like I got it from this kid. I'm only 20 years old. What guy will want to take the chance and be with me? Never felt so alone.
You are not alone! 1 in 4 women have it. It is not life threatening. I know how you feel I'm 23. It's a big pill to swallow. With that being said your love life is not over. Many people with herpes lead normal lives. I have a friend that has it and she found love after getting it. Do not be down on yourself. Things happen. We make mistakes. Just keep in mind it is NOT a death sentence and there are many like you..like US out there. Wishing you the best!
There is still that slight hope that when the clinic calls Friday that I don't have it, but I know that is very slim. I have all the symptoms. My throat has been sore for awhile, bad headaches, achy, and then the whole wiping and some sores down there. I have had sores before from shaving, but never like this. I've had this pain since Saturday/Sunday the clinic gave me medication and cream. How much longer before the pain starts to subside?
Don't despair! A visual diagnosis is not always conclusive, so I hope the clinic took a vaginal/lesion swab to properly confirm your HSV status.
Even if you have genital herpes, your mother is correct. It sucks to have it, for sure, but it's a manageable condition.
Also, there are two types. If you do have it and it's found to be HSV-1, then all isn't so bad. Even HSV-2 has its pros (and cons, obviously).
The main thing is to try and relax, drink lots of water/fluids for your UTI, and wait for a proper diagnosis, then take things from there. Maybe you don't have genital herpes, and if you do, it will only rule your life if you allow it to, so don't! Take care!!
From my personal experience I say give it a week to calm down. But stay consistent with the cream. Don't wear underwear whenever you can. Stuff like that. It'll be another week until you feel normal normal again. Again I'm speaking from my experience.
The pain is usually worst in the first week and wshould noticeably subside in the second week to bearable levels. By the end of the third week, you should feel completely normal down there.
I feel like I have the worse luck anymore. It is just crazy how one second everything is fine and next thing I know I could have some disease for the rest of my life. Other downfall is I'm in college I like to drink, so I don't know if I just need to cut back?
I've been investigating it for the last few days and I'm really confused. Some sites say HSV-1 can be worse, but than I've seen other people saying HSV-2 is the bad one?
Type 2 has more stigma attached to it and tends to recur and shed more (so more annoying and contagious), and is associated with some increased risks, but it tends to only prefer the genital region. As a result, oral sex is low risk and self-infection to other body parts is unlikely (especially after 3-4 months). It also protects you from genital HSV-1, and quite possibly oral HSV-1 (again, after 3-4 months; to do with establishing sufficient antibodies). Genital HSV-1 is mostly the opposite to the above.
So, after this first initial outbreak they do get better?? Sorry for all the questions. I'm just waiting on the results from the clinic I went too and I don't go to my actual family doctor until Monday for another check up and advice on everything.
The initial outbreak is usually the worst and longest. If HSV-1, you are not likely to outbreak again, or maybe just once a year. If HSV-2, they say to expect 4-6 outbreaks per year, which become less over time. There are exceptions to both cases, however, but that is the typical pattern.
That's why it's important to know which type you have, if you have it, as there are different implications for each (transmission risk, outbreak frequency, etc.).
When they usually call to give you the results will they state what type it is?
They should do. A viral culture or DNA/PCR swab can identify type. Be sure to ask. An IgG antibody blood test at 3-4 months can also identify type.
Take a break from the alcohol until your outbreak is over. Crazy things in life happen but it will be fine
I get my results tomorrow really dreading it.
Hang in there! Sometimes the waiting is worse, so it's good to just know, whatever the result is, then you're able to move forwards. Good luck and keep us posted! We're all here to help and offer support.
I am very sorry you have to deal with this unfortunate situation lucky25. it really isnt fair for anyone. I do however have something I would like to spread the word about though and maybe some hope for others along with it. Anyone ever heard of DRACOs? I myself am from Canada and it seems like this website/forum is UK? anyway, DRACOs stands for "Double Stranded RNA Activated Caspase Oligomizers" and it was developed at MIT in the U.S. They claim that it is affective against all viruses. they even started and idiegogo campaign to raise the funds because they havent received money from big pharmaceutical companies. WHY HAVENT THEY?? I am seriously surprised that this drug isnt the main topic on every news cast every night. I have followed it for more than a year now and daily i search about it. i also search about delta-gd-2. but that one is more of a "vaccine" for more years of therapy $$$. But DRACOs is claimed as a "cure".
Im not spam or a troll. I am a man who has suffered with herpes for 20 years and have not had a loving relationship in all these years. I would be and am glad to see anyone out there trying their best to fight this for us and for that i would do my best to spread the word or anything i can to help. so i ask kindly, if anyone can take a few minutes and check out DRACOs, the effort that is being put towards it and spread the word about it. check out the indiegogo page too. donate if your feeling like a philanthropist or if your just like me and tired of suffering for so long.
stay strong luck25
peace and love to all
