age 65, beaten sticks, canes, straps, punches, kicks, slaps, throughout childhood up to age 17. Depression, extreme anxiety, flashbacks/triggers, desocialised (unable relate to others). humiliated, massive injustcie and betrayal by parents, teachers and other significant adults, threatened with whipping by social worker at age 16.seriously discriminated agianst by females becasue little boy. girls were not beaten at school. unable live normal life. does this qualify as traumatically stressed childhood?
It qualifies for emotional and physical abuse!!! and I am SO sorry to hear this...NO ONE deserves this. My motto as a Unvieralist is to Love ALL and judge NONE!! It is so heartbreaking to hear these stories of abuse. I was abused too by multiple family members growing up so I know that pain and yes I got diagnosed with PTSD. The question is have you been diagnosed with PTSD? A mental health professional is the only one qualified to make a diagnoses. I suggest you ask for a MMPI...it's a test that a neuropsycholigist of psychologist can give you to help determine if you have PTSD but you probably do have it. What kinds of symptoms do you have? and YES you had a very traumatic childhood and if you have not gone to see a therapist to try to deal with these unresolved emottions I urge you to do so.
thanks for your encouraging response. I have not had the MMPI, since it would be carried out by a CBT trained assesor. I will not allow that, CBT is a charlatan's charter. Would you, like me, describe yourself a s a survivor of corporal punishment?
Dear Jack,
I am so sorry to hear how you were treated. It is appalling and yes you have certainly survived a traumatic childhood. I have been told that you, me and other adult children who suffered from physical and mental cruelty have what is called Complex-PTSD.
It is trauma that has not been addressed and more layers of abuse are accumulated. Each unaddressed trauma stacks onto of one another and creates an all mighty mess. CBT is not an answer so I hear in fact I think I read it makes PTSD worse.
I have C-PTSD and I am reading Pete Walkers book; Complex PTSD from Surviving to Thriving. If you don't trust therapists this may be for you.
Understand it - manage it - we can talk about it and stop other people doing it AND we can stop hiding it - we did not deserve it and should tell our stories.
I wish you all the best

"We should tell our stories". Can you say more about what happened to you? If you want to learn more about my storey, go on youtube and enter Jack Rainbow's Channel. There are 4 long clips entitled Margaret and Garnett and Margaret and Garnett 1, 2 and 3.
The feel of your post above is that you personally do not want to say much, like "all the best" is a final kind of goodbye, you have nothing else to say, just those few brief instructions and advice and don't want to ask me anything. Have I got that right?
I had hoiped that the disclosures I make about my corporal punishment childhood would encourgae others to tell their stories. But no. Its too frightening, is it not? Its too painful to talk about and also, there is the risk of some stupid cretin coming on here eand telling us it never did them any harm and we need to forgive our abusers. I've had this crap so many times and not just from the lay public, but from counsellors, therapists and doctors. So no wonder you're all too frightened to speak out.
Absolutely! That would almost certainly give you CPTSD. CPTSD is not PTSD. They share some similarities but any long term mistreatment as opposed to a single event (car crash for example) falls into the category of Complex post traumatic stress disorder. Long term mistreatment. As a child it affects how your brain is formed. Your brain operates and develops in survival mode. This damages your nervous system responses.
You have to share. Those of us who have Complex trauma are the best ones to share with. They won’t trigger you with a lack of understanding response.
Not sure what you are talking about my love.
Just realised I responded to your post from 10 years ago.
oh well, don’t worry about it. I have a new post ready and will post it as soon as they allow me to. I cannot operate the controls on site becasue they have not shown me how. It keeps asking me to enter a tag and the tag is of course, corporal punishment, but there is no such tag in the scroll down list and I have to wait for the staff to doi it for me. Irritating, depressing and a sign of the times.
What happened to you comes under Mental health, and if it happened over a length of time would almost certainly come under CPTSD. So maybe you could use those tags but make your post about corporal punishment. Just a thought.
