My surgeon recommended a cortisone shot before doing any surgery. I'm wondering how long it might work, if it suppresses the pain at all? Thanks for any comments. I go Wednesday the 19th.

They deaden it so I didnt feel pain.but for me it also didnt help much.
I have had these injections twice now, both guided by ultrasound. The first one suppressed the pain in my groin for about 4 months. The second time it didn't last that long. I know other people who have been luckier than me and the pain relief has been longer. I think I will give up on them now and have the surgery.
It was just to ease the pain as it goes...We all know the pain.....Pain!!
My gosh...I had sufered,,,,but now more as both sides have been done...!!
I am recovering................................................ Ian.
Thx Ginger
Thx Lynn
Yes, Ian, I guess it only prolongs the enviable surgery...... Going to try anyway. Thx
Worth a try. I hope it works and helps your pain.
Hi Debbie,
Don't know anythng about cortisone injections except what others wrote. I would recommend finding out about someone who does stem cell replacement injections if thecortison is not helpful I was not eligible for stem cells as my hip was too far gone.Hoping to do the other hip once I recover from recent surgery. It is quite an expensive proedure several thousand US dollars but if you can afford it and are a good candidate, you may be able to avoid any surgery. I think I read that is it being done in the UK. It might be worth finding out. It is a relatively new procedure but seems to be quite sucessful for some people. Whatever path you take. I wish you the best of luck and a painfree future.Jeanne
I had 2 of them, one was supposed to be ultrasound guided but the radiologist didn't do it and my French isn't that great so what could I do. The second one I had done in a hospital under moving x-ray, I watched ti on the screen. The first one didn't hurt at all, the second one I would say it smarted the next day or two. Both shots only lasted me about 2 months. Then I went and had the THR.
Hi Debbi -
I remember my surgeon in Los Angeles suggesting the same thing - Apparently it is part of the procedure prior THR .. I was not "at the end of my rope" yet -
I moved to Holland and xray showed bone-on-bone right hip - I guess I reached the end of the rope withing 6 months ...
I didn't get the shot but was a candidate for THR ...
Are you in a lot of pain? whate else did your surgeon tell you?
Good luck tomorrow and please come back here and tell us about it, okay ?
Warm hug
renee
Hi Debbie, my surgeon recommended the same thing... Partly to absolutely make sure it was the OA in my hip needing the THR he suspected. My injection only gave me temporary pain relief and i was booked for the THR subsequently. My injection was done under general anaesthetic so, no it didn't hurt at all!
good luck!
Hi Debbi, I did the cortisone shots every three months for a year prior to my replacement. The first shot worked well and lasted about 3months all shots after that didn't last as long. It did relieve the pain and didn't hurt but it just put off the inevitable replacement.
