Hi friends...11 years ago I broke and shattered my femur, and because I have no cartilage in that knee, I'm getting ready to have a knee replacement next month..there was a small area of the femur that showed nonunion, so my doctor did a biopsy..inside the cadaver bone, was corynebacterium..because the periprosthetic fracture was so severe, I am always in pain..anyways, I had antibiotic therapy at the hospital daily for 6 weeks, then 2 doxycycline a day for the next year...it was ascertained that the corynebacterium has been there for 11 years..my orthopedic surgeon and the infectious disease Dr are both adamant that I need to stay on this twice daily cocktail til next July, if not forever...anyone out there have an experience like this?
