I think I am suffering from Costochondritis i didn’t even know what this was until I researched into this vod awful pain i have . Ribs left and right pain sometimes one is worse than the other . Radiates to same place at the back . A stitch feeling at times if I sneeze I have to hold my ribs if I bend lift anything remotely heavy its game over all day and when I eat it really aggrevates it (this is a new symptom) ive realised over possibly the last 7yrs this flares up every couple of months and it really stops me in my tracks . I use topical gels to try and ease it .. and hot and cold therapy this works mainly on the back . I cant take ibropfen etc as this causes indigestion to worsen I take no pain relief and I am now in month 2 and it isn’t going . Only relief I get is when I go to sleep at night . Even drinking water in the morning sets it off . Is it possible this can bring on indigestion as in makes it worse or other way round ? Any trapped wind jist feels like it sits on my ribs and is horrible! I must say I suffer awfully with health anxiety i am in the past have been a very angry stressed person and its almost like you can feel that tension in my body .. tight chest etc .. my posture ive noticed is also shocking one side I lean forward rounded shoulders for sure . Anyone else how do you cope ?
This sounds exactly like me down to the posture. I’ve been having this for around 4 years now and it got so bad over the last year that I’ve had to stop working and I was basically crippled and stooping over to the right. I started seeing a chiropractor twice a week for 12 weeks and now I alternate each week and have a deep tissue massage one week and chiropractic realignment the next and I have to say that it has really helped to straighten me back up again and my flare ups have lessened over time so it might be beneficial for you also. Other than that I’ve found pressing a hot water bottle under my boob or laying on top of it helps as well as magnesium, ginger and menthol gels because all NSAIDs have no effect on the pain. The chiropractor would also help with the indigestion, I was recommended pre and probiotics and I’ve found that taking them regularly really helps as well as drinking some kefir daily like 200mls. I’m still having the flare ups but they aren’t as bad, they aren’t taking my breath away like before. I also recommend walking when your having a flare up. When mine is at its peak I go for a slow walk for as long as I can handle, take cocodamol, have a bath filled pretty much with all hot water and Epsom salts and stay in it for 20 mins and then use the magnesium gel and get a hot water bottle ready. It’s insane how much heat it takes to give some relief but it really is the best thing for it. Hope you find some relief ![]()
