I'm on my 3rd week of 20mg and this morning my throat started feeling like it was "closing" and it got hard to breathe. That went away but then returned about an hour ago. I'm also having chest pain, heartburn, a headache and I feel weak. If I was going to have a bad effect from the medication shouldn't it have started earlier? I'm just scared that it's something else. I don't think I can tolerate much more! The anxiety and panic attacks are hard enough!
Adding to that, my tongue feels like it has gotten larger...it seems to be too large for my mouth
It sounds like it is anxiety. Ive had all those symptoms from anxiety alone. And i think if you were allergic, it would have happened within the first few days! I get all paranoid thinking im allergic to anything new i try that i carry benadryl with me lol! Oh the joys of anxiety and panic!
Thank you that makes me feel a lot better! I've just never had my throat feel like it does and that scared me.
No problem! I get the "strangling" or "throat closing" feeling a lot. What actually helps me if to suck on a hard candy like mints or something!
Im also early into celexa im in my 4th week and my anxiety was so bad when i started it. It's bad still but i can feel it starting to get better. Hang in there!
Thanks for the advice! This really does suck and it takes a toll on everyone I'm sure. It's comforting to know others are going through this as well.
Hey Tcaro20,
Hang in there sounds like side effects and yeah they can take a few days to months in messing with ya'all everyone is different mine are starting to reduce however I still get real bad tremours plus other minor side effects yet way better place than a few months ago when I was balancing along a highwire of existance. if your real worried talk to your doc hope it lets up soon _
Hi Tcao, I get that feeling too sometimes. Does not help that I have asthma too, so my chest often feels a bit tighter. The Dr assured me it would settle, and is indeed anxiety related. Hang in there, and I hope you start feeling much better soon. This is my 6th week on Cit, so yup, I do think if was allergy related it would have happened sooner. Chat to your Dr if you get really concerned. Lee x
No it's not an allergic reaction, just anxiety combined with some side effects. Make sure you take your tablet with lots of water, as I have taken it without once and it made my throat contract as it passed it's way down.
It is a tough journey initially on these meds, but stick with however bad it gets, as it'll all settle down in time, and once through it your anxiety, panic, depression etc will go away.
One thing to note too that is when you start feeling better you may suddenly feel like you're back at the beginning again. Feeling low, anxiety etc. Don't worry, this is normal and your mood will be up and down for a while until it evens out. This is another normal part of recovery. The medicine doesn't stop working, you don't need to increase the dose - just ride it out, wait and it'll pass. Once you're through all this you'll feel well, happy, anxiety free, back to your normal self.
Its worth all the unpleasantness and the wait.
