Could I have LPR?

I'm a 15 year old boy. For the past few years I've had constant phlegm in the back of my throat which made me need to constantly clear my throat. I also have a croaky/hoarse voice which I know has something to do with this phlegm and throat clearing. I don't think I have any allergies and I notice an increase of phlegm after I eat food. I've also noticed there's even more phlegm after drinking milk and some other dairy products. I know that dairy products naturally produce more phlegm. Even citrus fruits/drinks seem to cause more phlegm. It's very annoying and others say my voice sounds hoarse, and sometimes if I don't throat clear for a long period my voice comes out all phlegmy. I'm not sure if this is LPRD. Please help me out. Thanks.

Sean i would stop eating any dairy products if i was you.

Hi Sean,

Yes maybe try cutting out dairy to rule that out and if you are still having symptoms go talk to your GP,

I had GERD and as far back as a child I can remember symptoms, phlegm was one annoying one and I had what to others was a habit and irritating. There were many other symptoms along with it.. I was on acid busting medication for about 14 years, I had surgery to repair a hiatus hernia and fix my reflux, FUNDIPLICATION.

Hopefully for you it's a dairy intolerance and can be sorted out with diet. It's worth trying to have a chat with your GP.

Good luck.

Margaret

Go to the free book / website www DownWithAcid org uk and read the chapter on Extra-Oesophageal reflux (LPR) .

If you think this is what you have, discuss it with your doctor.

I am 50 years older than you but now know I suffered from reflux all my life - undiagnosed until 20 years ago. They understand it much more now.
