For the last few years I have had SHARP disabling pain in my lower left side at and below the ribcage. I used to think it was just gastritis, but now that I am having new symptoms I am thinking it could be my pancreas and am making a doctors appointment. I have had fatigue like you would not believe, night sweats where I have sweat out the entire bed, my tryglicerides are 313, and my glucose has been slightly elevated and liver enzymes elevated as well. Last weekend I thought I was having chest pains but I also had pain in that lower left area, and went to the hospital thinking I was having a heart attack (I have high BP anyways) My cholesterol had been elevated too, so I was concerned. It was 91 degrees outside and I think it turned out to just be heat stroke, so I thought. Now, a few days later and home from the hospital and I don't feel ANY better with the fatigue, and it's worse when I eat. My stool has been oily as well, but I just chalked that up to my IBS.
My question: I am not nauseous nor do I have a fever, but sometimes my appetite is lost on occasion. Is it still possible to have pancreatic problems if you're not really nauseous or having a fever? Anyone?
It sounds like it could be a pancreas problem. I have pancreatitus without fever or nausea. When I have a flare I get night sweats too and I certainly don't want to eat. Did they not suggest that when you were in the hospital? It would be worth asking your doctor for a scan.
It's worth having your blood tested to see if your lipase levels might be elevated. My pancreatitis was just pain at first
The symptoms sound like pancreatitis. I would agree to get your lipase levels checked
Thanks! I think I will. I have a doctors appointment scheduled for Monday that is a followup w/ my General Doctor since my hospitalization
Hello, sure you can have pancreatitis and not have a fever or throwing up. You can also have it even though the blood work says you are normal.
From what you are saying about the area and pain my guess is it is acute pancreatitis. I have chronic, don't let yours go chronic
Regards
Rick
Hey there, we'll I'm no Doc, but I have Pancreatitis, and I can tell you for sure that your Pancreas is on the right hand side, not the left. So that's at least good news for you :-)
Are you sure you don't have a Hernia?
I suspected it a while back, and my doctor just ran my blood today, so we will see. It's unbearable pain though and whatever it is needs to stop!
Oh I hear you! It is just the most debilitating pain I have ever experience.... I have cried myself to sleep more that I care to remember. Aa
As mentioned, as your pain is on the left, I do have my doubts as to yours being Pancreatitis, because the pesky Pancreas is definitely in the right hand side .....
Wishng you a speedy recovery, And please share your findings with your fellow suffers (when u isolate the problem
Glad to hear that. I thought the pancreas was in the Upper middle of the abdomen. All my pain is in the upper middle and under the left rib. Neausea and pain all day and all night for the last 7 months. Had H-Pylori and took the treatment , but the pain and neausea is still there. So the doc is thinking pancreatitis. Scheduled a ct scan and endoscopy. My prayers are with all.
Perhaps it presents differently in everyone, cause I've been told it's in the left (that's where mine is as well).
I just looked it up on the net. The head is just behind the liver just to the right of the breast bone. The body and tail of the pancreas goes to the left and lies behind the stomach and left rib. Don't know if I explained it very well. All I know is that I'm really worried about it. Everything I've read says pain and neausea from middle of abdomen to behind the left rib cage and also pain radiating to the back. I don't have back pain but I do seem to have everything else though. That's what's scary. I guess I need to stop looking things up . I'm about to put myself in the grave! 😂
Yeah, I guess the symptoms could present differently.......
As everybody else has suggested, for your own peace of mind - go to the Doc and get a diagnosis, then take it from there.
Sending all my positive energy your way..... Good luck!
Yep ! Already have my appointments and have now made up my mind N O T to look up anything else until I find out the test results. Thanks for talking about this. Every little bit of conversation seems to improve my attitude . And outlook. Good luck to you.
Agreed - I am just as happy to have found this platform......
I am long since passed the 'stigma' of the condition, I just wanted any help on dealing with the pain!!!
I really hope you get sorted.
Cheerio!
Ahh! "Cheerio" I love it . American here. Great talking too ya .
South Africa here, and lovely chatting with you as well. Take care!
My pain was on the left also. Right up under the rib cage. It felt like gas but it was my pancreas
Mine felt like my insides were bruised at first. Now it's turned into sharp stinging pains. But mine is starting to look like chronic, so that's probably why
