Could I use Buspirone to replace Diazepam in the UK?

Hi,

I have been taking diazepam for ten years but thankfully due to not having an addictive nature (I ve since researched) I can stop it at any time and have no withdrawel effects as I have never used it everyday. I use it very sparingly when I have to face a situation that causes me anxiety - usually social situations as I have very bad social anxiety. However the laws in the UK regarding the treatment of diazepam seem to be changing (very sadly for me indeed).

I am researching what I may take instead and have heard of Buspirone, which seems to be similar but without the so called tollerant/addictive effects of diazepam (which never effected me anyway)

If I could use this along with beta blockers, I think I might just be allright and my life might still be worth living -

Thanks for any help

I've started buspar in the last three weeks ago u have to be patient with it it has to build up in your system at least 4-6 weeks give or take a week or two I would give it a shot but just remember be patient everyone's body is different

thats great, I will mention it to my Gp - does it cause weight gain? Im suprised you have to take it everyday - thats what I liked about diazepam - I didnt need to take it everyday only as needed...being on pills 24/7 does not appeal to me - but it seems I have no choice now - I was also wondering because I read they dont prescribe it in the UK long term but do in Austrailia (makes you wonder why they are different rules in different countries when medicine is supposed to be an objective science!)

When your anxiety settles down u will be hungry just eat healthy the mornings are worst for me because I wanna be back the way I was I don't like taking meda either but its something we have to do. I haven't accepted my anxiety yet and that's needs to happen firstly. But I'm only 3 weeks in
