After a long struggle with my shortness of breathe and throat feeling tight since December I finally begged my doctor to give me a soft tissue x-ray of the neck just to clear my mind. I have also been having a slight whistling when breathing (especially when I'm lying down) since a bad fever in December just as my anxiety kicked in and that has bothered me a lot but doctors always disregarded it because my lungs sound fine. Anyway I got the xray back and all seems clear except this sentance:
"Tiny ovoid lucency near the vallecula or base of the epiglottis which could represent air within the vallecula or potentially a tiny cyst."
It goes on to say that there are no abnormalities and it does not suggest further testing to evaluate.
Ever since I got the result back I can't stop thinking my shortness of breathe is from that "potential tiny cyst". When looking up Vallecular Epiglottis Cyst it suggests that such cysts can block the airway and need removal with surgery. Idk what to think anymore. Anyone?
Try not to worry about it your gp obviously doesn't think it is serious or he would of sent you for more tests etc perhaps these cysts are common and nothing to be afraid of. Have you had a chat to your gp maybe you could admit you have googled who wouldn't? Anyway hope you get some reassurance soon.x
Yea. I went back to my doc in the morning he said he doesn't think that that is the cause and something that small shouldn't cause problems. He wants to see my coronary cta results to see if he sees something there too in my throat or if it was just air bubbles. I feel alot better today after my visit but still slightly worried. He's also gonna get me started on new meds because he said my body has grown resistant to the ativan I was taking and that's why my anxiety is worse now. After the new meds he plans on starting me on an antidepressant. I wanna add that he isn't my regular gp but a specialist at my university that treats students. Ty for your reply.
