Could this be anxiety?

I am hoping someone out there can help me. I have had anxiety on and off all my life, I am 47. My life can be stressful at times hut who's isn't? I have had trouble controlling my BP even when medicated. J had an abnormal ecg last week and of course that made me anxious. I went for an angiogram and they couldn't do it as my BP and heart rate were too high so they gave me Meteropolol to take so I could get it done the next day. I haven't got results back yet. The day I had the CT angiogram I ended up in hospital with a hypertensive crisis. I hadn't taken the Meteropolol at that stage. I didn't think I was stressed at the time but my whole body went warm and I felt like I was out of control of my body. I had a pounding headache and no energy, not even the energy to talk. I had this terrifying feeling that I was going to die. My BP was in stroke range and they put me in a ressuss room. My question is, is how bad can anxiety or panic attacks be and can they creep up on you without even thinking you are anxious? I am having my adrenals checked and get the results next week. I'm just wanting to know has anyone else experienced this before and could this be anxiety?

Hello, sorry to hear you are going through a rough time.

I am not a Doctor but I will say that if you do have a pre-existing medical condition such as High Blood pressure then anxiety can definitely make the symptoms worse. Anxiety in itself wouldnt to the best of my knowledge cause a Hypertensive state but as I said it can accelerate an existing condition. Panic attacks cause short-term high blood pressure and Tachycardia but these symptoms reduce once the anxiety reduces. When I have a panic attack my heart rate is at 110-120 and blood pressure rises slightly. After 20 minutes it has all gone back to normal as I calm.

I did have an EXTREME panic attack last year that shot my blood pressure up so high I had an intense migraine (along with lots of other symptoms) and ended up in Hospital. All of these symptoms were very short lived and always correlated with my anxiety.

Its very difficult but managing stress is so important because it really does wreak havoc on the body.

Wish you the best!

sorry youre going through that, so id say this, if all your results come back negative/normal then YES, that all can be anxiety and panic attacks. the problem is anxiety can mimic a lot of symptoms related to real illnesses and diseases. also you can experience “out of body” experiences. but while we people with anxiety know these feelings are possible its still too scary to always rely on it being just that. i feel first time sufferers should get worked up by and MD first, if all clears then start checking into anxiety and how it works. good luck! not sure how youre feeling about this pandemic but that alone can make you subconciously stressed.
