Hi all. I am a 50 year old lady with extreme health anxiety. I have worked myself up into a frenzy thinking I have something seriously wrong. About 6 wks ago I had very watery diarrhoea and had some blood on it. GP examined me and as no obvious cause, referred me to bowel clinic. I have an appt there on Tuesday. No blood since the fist time but still have diarrhoea on and off. Was told about 10 years ago I had IBS as sometimes have an urgent need to pass a BM. However I have now developed a pressure type feeling near my solar plexus area. It’s like gnawing, it’s not pain. I also feel like a trapped wind feeling which seems to move around from one side to another, under ribs. Again it’s not pain, just discomfort and pressure. I’m burping like a mad woman and have lots of stomach gurgling. Could this possibly be gastritis or a hiatus hernia? I don’t have acid reflux but do have a metallic taste in my mouth. My mum died of pancreatic cancer and its my biggest fear so apologies for dramatic post.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks
yes anxiety and stress can cause all sorts of gastrointestinal issues that are very treatable. I get the gastritis due to my long-term anxiety. maybe the IBS along with something like gastritis or a hiatal hernia could cause the symptoms. I Too got the gnawing feeling with gastritis. and years ago I did have the IBS also due to anxiety . with your symptoms like the burping and trapped air feeling it does sound more like possible gastritis or something similar, and not anything really serious. i’ve had all of your symptoms except the blood part but I know IBS does cost that at times. That’s due to the irritation in the intestines from the IBS.
i Think with the right treatment that you’re going to be OK! They will most likely put you on a medication to help calm things down. I do hope you feel better soon!
also, be careful what you eat because it can aggravate what’s going on. Eat smaller more frequent meals and stay hydrated. And of course stay away from stress!
Thank you so much for your reply. Its very helpful. I’m sure my anxiety is just exacerbating things.
