Could this be Glandual Fever?

Hello, this all started about 2 weeks ago. I woke up one morning with sweat and a sore throat also a stuffy nose and I had a nasty cough with phglem. I had a headache also. I noticed my neck hurted when I turned it to the right. I notice a swollen lymph node. I don't know if I had a fever? But i know I wasn't feeling right. I had an appointment for a blood test and it came up negative for anything. At that time I took the blood test I wasn't sick. Should I do a retake? At the same appointment I told my symptoms such as the cough and the swollen lymph nodes and the phglem. He told me I have an infection and gave me antibiotics. I took them and so far they are doing pretty well. I don't have the cough with phylem as much and the my stuffiness has somewhat improved. I still have the swollen lymph nodes. So i am worried. Wouldn't they have gone away already? There is so reddening around the swollen lymph node. I feel way more better than I was the day I was sick. I do have thoughts it could be lymphoma but my CBC was fine and that I can only feel one swollen lymph node. I guess you can call me a hypochondriac. I do sweat at my forehead alot but today I didn't sleep with any sweat. I don't want to think the worse. My swollen lymph node has gotten more deeper to feel also. is that okay? At times it feels small and sometimes big. I have no clue if I glandual fever  before. Someone help me?!

To be perfectly honest with you it sounds like a common viral infection, that maybe spread to your chest.

The antibiotics will have been to clear-up the chest infection.

It does not sound at all like Glandular Fever.

I'm just worried about swollen lymph nodes. I do tend to touch them alot. Could touching them make them swell more? I'm always worried if its something else.

Well if you are still barking up the glandular fever tree I think you are off beam by a long chalk, as this is one of the first things your doctor will have checked for.

Personally I would stop messing about with your lymph nodes, as this in itself could be causing more swelling.

I would be tempted to leave it all alone for at least 7 days and see how it settles.

If there is no improvement by that time it might be that the node has an infection in it which may require more antibiotics.

Worrying about it will make it seem worse than it actually is.

I actually finished taking antibiotics for it last week. They made most of the symptoms I had the time I was sick, they seem to have worked. No more coughing with phlegm. The stuffiness is somewhat still there but not that bad. The swollen lymph node is what remains. And of course looking at google I'm always thinking it could be lymphoma. I will try not to touch it. I'm obviously always checking if it has grown and get more scared that is still there.

Hi rowel123. What you does sound like glandular fever. However, sounds like your doc is treating it with antibiotics? That shd cure it. If you are wondering why the lymph glands are still swollen, go see your doc again.

Could touching my swollen lymph node cause to swell more?

Hi rowel123. No, touching the glands won't make them swell. I think if you take all the meds as directed your glands will stop swelling. If they are still swollen, then go see your doc again. Good luck.

I'm just scared this could be something worse like lymphoma.

It isn't a lymphoma Rowel, otherwise they would have dragged you into hospital for immediate surgery.

So try to relax.

I'm going crazy! I can stop touching it, it has grown a bit bigger. I haven't sweat for 2 days so far. I have a appointment today. Wish me luck.

Go on tell me it's like a spot that just has to be S Q U E E Z ED......

Leave it alone, and good luck.

Well he felt them and wasnt to concerned about it. He told me they were soft. I guess that's reassuring. Told me that it's common since the infection was pretty recent. Surprisingly told me not to touch them and that don't search up google and that he would know if something was wrong.

Google is great for finding technical details because the answers are all black and white.

When it comes to medical matters many of the answers are conjecture, or if you like opinions that are not really reliable enough to depend upon.

The problem is that when people are ill they always think they've got the worse possible illness in the book, so they go searching for it and bingo, when they find it that's when they really start to worry.

The answer always is if you are ill then go to the doctor.

Anyway you can stop worrying for the moment.

And by the way, I didn't mislead you did I?

Why do you think they call me Archemedes, because I've been there, done that and got the tee shirt - well i'm old enough to be the real one.

Take care.

Yeah, the only thing that's making me optimistic is that I only have one swollen lymph node. I feel way better it's just the swollen lymph node that's bothering me. Maybe if I do stop touching them it should go down. You've been generous. Thank you. I'm 18 and this stuff kinda scares me.

Well I'm 70, no actually 71 in a couple of hours, but I was your age once and if the truth be known the same things used to scare me.

I'm a lot wiser now, so if you ever need any more support just pm me.

All the best

Rod
