Over the last week I have been having a feeling of general discomfort across the abdomen (bowel area) with a queasy feeling. No specific pain, no blood, normal stools. Dr gave me Lanoprazole for nausea and Buscopan for discomfort with no difference.
Over the last few months I have been finding it harder to tolerate grains particularly breakfast cereals and oats without having diarrhoea or excessive wind.
Worried about this don't know if it is a bug, IBS, grain intolerance that has aggravated the bowel. Worry more than most as I have GAD.
Please help x
Hi Lorraine,
It does sound like IBS. If you know the grains are flaring it up, stop eating them. Easier said than done I know. Cut them out for a month, then slowly reintroduce them. If they make you flare up then you know they're the culprit.
It may be worth you following the Fodmap diet. It could be something else that's giving you nausea.
Unfortunately I suffer from nausea but theres no direct cause - tiredness, anxiety, some foods - they all affect it. I take dompierdome which has changed my life. The way in which anti-emetics work can be quite subjective so perhaps the lanoprazole isn't for you - I went through several ones before getting to domperidome.
Sadly the anxiety is hand in hand with your gut, as it's your second brain. The more you worry about it, the worse it gets. I can often send myself into a full blown flare up because I'm out somewhere and it starts to niggle, but I don't have pills, or i'm at work so I can't lie down etc etc. It's really quite exhausting. Whatever practices you use to control your anxiety try to use them for when your stomach plays up.
Just to say it's normal, a lot of people suffer with IBS. It's very annoying but it's also not the end of the world. You just have to take care of yourself, what you eat and get plenty of rest.
It may be worth getting tested for any stomach related bugs though if you're not prone to suffering this before.
Stay strong x
Is your discomfort pain such as stabbing sensations, sore to touch, deep seated or dull? Does the pain move about? Does anxiety trigger symptoms? If you have these symptoms, it could be IBS.
Try going gluten free to see if that helps with the bowel habit change and gas. Have you tried a food diary to see if any other foods irritate you? Some people with IBS can't tolerate gluten. There is also a condition cauled non celiac gluten intolerance.
Have you been tested for celiac? This can cause stomach pain and diarrhoea due to gluten. For this test you need to be eating gluten for the test to be accurate. If the test comes back negative but your doctor still thinks you have celiac, you would be referred for an endoscopy which would confirm it.
Hi, if eating bread is a problem you could try sourdough bread it's fermented bread and a lot easier to digest, check out the fodmap diet, it tells you foods unlikely to cause problems and those that will.
