Crackling noise.

I have noticed when i am in bed at night i can hear a crackling noise when i breath. Anyone else?

Hi Dianne, is it related to LPR or have you got asthma?

Never been diagnosed with asthma, gp checked my lungs and oxygen levels and all my bloods and they were fine. Dr just thought acid reflux and gave me lansoprazole which i have been on for 10 days. Is LPR the same as acid reflux?

Can get it if Chesty, have you had a cold?

Hi Dianne,

You can get crackling with acid reflux, it depends on how it affects you. I very rarely get acid - I get throat and chestiness - when it first started with me I was convinced I had a chect infection. Lifting the head of your bed with either a plank of wood or bricks about 8-10 inches helps stop the acid creeping up your oesophagus when you go to bed. Propping pillows can give you a crick in your neck - I know I tried that before I propped the bed up! Cut out food 3 hours before bed and drinks 2 hours before bed too - you might see improvement there too.

That's what i keep feeling like i have an infection but dr checked my temp, oxygen levels and lungs. I also have a stiff neck all the time.

Hi Dianne,I no exactly what you mean.i had that for 2years.they tested me for everything .same tablets as yourself plus inhalers.i have just had an operation to repair the muscle at the top of my stomach and a hiatus hernia repair I now sleep fantastic.only three weeks since the op.and still on purée food.i think you shoul go and back to gps and ask for an endoscopy.that sorted me out.the noise of my throat and chest was terrible I thought I was going to die and no one was listening until my husband taped it on my phone.go back to GP.and hope all is well with your self.i will watch out for your reply in the coming months.x

I have right side back/shouder/neck pain which is worrying me and now my left side of my neck is hurting too. Dr said it could be muscular but i keep thinking it's my lungs. The only thing is it hurts if i shrug my shoulders or do shoulder rolls and i don't think if it was my lungs that it would hurt if i did that.

Yes, me too but I am so tired at night that I don't hear it until the morning.  I have a cyst in my throat so I thought it was that but also mucous draining down from my nose can increase the noise too.  It is amazing what stomach acid can do.  I am on omeprazole 20 mg for awhile.  My Doc said to raise the bed but I don't have anywone to help me as my back is very bad.  Maybe next time my son is here he can get some wood planks to put under the bedframe.
