cramp

Hi i have alpha 1 antitryptsine defficiency and i am getting dredfull cramp at night I have tried all the usual meds ( vit c and magnesium ) but not helped can anyone else who have this tell me if this is due to the alpha or

something else entirley , Has anyone any good remidies to prevent cramp?

Hi Patricia. Not sure whether cramp is related to your condition.but I have COPD and also get cramp, especially in the legs and feet, at night. Quinine is very good for cramp and you can get quinine tablets from your Dr on prescription, but I find that a small glass of tonic water just before bed stops cramp completely, as this contains quinine. I'm not sure whether there are any contra indications to quinine. You might want to check with your GP first. I say a small glass full because I actually hate the stuff but it's better than cramp. Hope this helps.

Sometimes the cramps are caused by the medication.

To keep hydrated drink plenty of water (dehydration can cause cramps)

Some people find tonic water helps (quinine)

Personally I try to make sure I am properly hydrated before bed I find helps to prevent cramps, and if I get cramps I keep a jar of vicks vapo rub at the ready.  If the muscle is already tender from previous night cramps, I rub some vicks onto the affected muscle before going to sleep.

Hi I used to get cramps all the time, mr dr said it was a calcium deficiency..  If you can drink milk,  yogurt, seame seeds,  Thani is great lots of calcium and you can mix it into your smoothly.
