Cramping pain, wind?

Hi  I was  diagnosed 3 days ago with a UTI I have been on antibiotics since then.  The original pain and discomfort are not as bad but I have had two umbelievably painful bouts of stomach cramps, these each lasted well over and hour and I am positive it was trapped wind.  Is this normal?  I am drinking Fennel tea and Hot boiled water.  Am not sure what else to do. Have used Gaviscon and take paracetomol alternated with Ibuprofen if it gets too bad  Thanks

Hi ann. Could it be the antibiotics causing this pain? This has happened to me with certain ones. I then had to have them changed to a different type.

Hi,  I have been wondering that myself,  I am having a telephone conversation with a doctor later this morning because I feel worse now that I did originally.  My abdomen is just a bit sore and tender now but the top of my tummy (near my ribs ) is absolutely full of wind again.  My muscles are aching now too.  Hopefully the dodctor can shed some light on it.  Thank you for replying

Hello Ann,

2 antibiotics for UTI  made me horribly ill, stomach cramps etc. :  Metrozyl ... and Trimethro .....  Unfortunately both are favourites of the hospital Urology dept., so they put me on to NITROFURANTOIN which has no side effects for me, but only staved off each uti for a very few days. CO-AMOXICLAV  behaved the same way.

Since then I've warded off repeat infections by taking HIPREX (Methenamine Hippurate,  1 gram)  twice daily. It's only available now on prescription, so do try it.  I've been infection-free now for 3 months  ---  a record !

Good Luck.

Hi Jayne, I have now been put on a strong dose of Amoxillin, it seems to be doing the trick, I have also been told that the pains are very likely to be a kidney stone. I am on the road to recovery now thank goodness. Thanks for the advice though I will talk to the doctor about my options

Oh ann poor you if you have a kidney stone. Very very painful. I had one years ago and it was worse than my labour pains. Drink lots and lots of fluids and take care.

Thank you for your help and your concern both of you.  I am a bit uncomfortable this morning and to be honest a bit fed up too,   I know I am getting better but am just so tired.    I will give myself a kick up the backside and get on with it smile   The way I am looking at it is each day is another day nearer to being better
