Around two this afternoon I got the strangest cramps. I felt them everywhere, not just in my stomach or abdomen but in my rectum too, and they were the most terrible cramps I've ever felt. They've been persisting intermittently for almost 12 hours (it's now 1:00AM). They feel better when I pass gas, but I haven't been able to go to the bathroom because it hurts too much. I woke up around midnight and tried to go to the bathroom but just got nauseas and shivery (might be from anxiety too). I've been snacking on prunes and water since then, but am very nervous. I've never had trouble like this before. Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms- I know all are common with IBS, just not for me or at least not to this extent.
sorry you are having such pain. i get pain all over the place to. currently worrying about pain low down in pelvis probably wind, though. i have had rectal pain with constipation which was excrutiating and frightening; i took pain killers which eventually worked. i have also used sudacrem on my back passage as i had small tears and bleeding through struggling. Prunes, i found to be too vicious for me. i use ground linseeds, ginger tea, aloe vera inner leaf juice. also when really bad movical laxatives; in small doses. i presume you know to drink lots and lots of water. vital with the linseed if you use them. good luck
If you have IBS, you can get different symptoms over time It is very common for IBS patients to worry when their symptoms change. Stress and worry can make your flare ups worse. Try antispasmodics and painkillers for the pain and try to stay as calm as possible, calmness really helps to control IBS symptoms.
Very true. My symptoms haven’t changed a lot since my diagnosis and certainly not this drastically, but once I calmed down and eventually fell asleep things seemed to get better. Thanks for the support and talking me down.lol
Prunes are one of the only things I’ve found that work, but are less harsh than drugs. Thanks for the support, things seem to be a lot better this morning.![]()
Glad you are feeling better; sleep also helps with IBS. Glad to be of help.
Hi Ryn,
It sounds as if you could be suffering from constipation and trapped wind. The pain can be excruciating. My dietician recommended 2 tablespoons of golden linseeds in Activia yoghurt twice a day and it made such a difference. Once symptoms resolved I found I didn’t need that quantity and now 1 tablespoon with Activia yoghurt once a day works for me whenever I have a problem with constipation or an excess of wind.
oh, that resonated with me. I’d be doubled up in pain and unable to move, used to lie down in a foetal position until I fell asleep and I guess as I relaxed the spasms went. It’s difficult to relax when you’re in so much pain though isn’t it?
