Creams for scars on hips

Hi hippies.

I would be grateful for any advice on creams or treatment for the scars following my TLHR which was  3 weeks ago. Feeling pretty tight but clean and no infection, redness. Any suggestions please ? Best wishes to you all.

My surgeon told me that the scar dosnt need any creams or potions on it so i never bothered and my scar is fantastic but i know a lot of people use bio oil and things like that. Im 5 months post op.

Good question....no info about this at time of op but from this site saw someone who recommended bio oil. That's expensive apparently and a friend thought lavender oil.

Rang hospital who said this was ok.

Using once a week and neutral about this

Hi, I'm 4 weeks post op today and last week physio told me I could use my usual body cream (Doublebase) to massage the scar which felt tight. It's a lot more supple this week. I have also used Tea Tree oil on it after my shower and I think it helps but subjective I guess.

i am really lucky to have a lovely sister-in -law who imports Argan oil from Morocco and she has given me some (yes free of charge!!) it is amazing and my scar is healing really well and my skin is smooth, but I know it is expensive to buy - coconut oil is relatively inexpensive if bought from an Indian shop and also very good x

Coconut oil is meant to be good, plus when you have finished using it for scar you can cook with it! It's good for hair condition too. My friend used it for a c section scar and it healed lovely and she smelt lovely too! I have previously use bio oil for stretch marks and it did fade them, but I don't know if they would have faded just as quick without it?

Definitely Bio oil or similar...I used it every day or more and my scar is now a very feint thin line.....

Definitely...massage it in every time you go to the loo!! Softens the surrounding tissue which for me was quite hard and lumpy for a while....

If youre in UK ...some discount shops sell a cheaper version called Rescue Oil...Poundstretchers, Home Bargain etc....

I was told baby lotion was the best to use at first because it has no additives, if its okay for babies, its okay for hippies as well.  Don't know whether it helps the scar fade, but it makes skin feel more flexible and soft.  Anyway that is what I used for 6 weeks or so and then went onto a cheaper version of bio oil.  Good luck with yours.

Hi Kevin

I used Bio oil from about two weeks (or after staples/stitches removed) which can be quite expensive but a little goes a long way and also used a specialist cream called Kelocote (very expensive in a tiny tube) but was worried I would get a keloid scar as I did once before. Aqueous cream is also good from your local chemist and not expensive.

I realise this is contradictory to some, but I have had three independent professionals warn me against using Bio Oil, saying it's unnecessary, ineffective and expensive.

I've tried several different products and think the best are 1) pure argan oil 2) coconut oil and 3) Topricin.

I was also warned against using anything highly scented, which ruled out essential oils for me.

Hi Kevin, Not too sure if moderator will remove this but a friend of mine (who had 2 knee replacements)  said her surgeon recommended M&S Lavender Cream... £5 and I started using in Sept 2 x a day after shower and couple of months 1 x day and  just coming to end of pot!   It's not so much for the scar itself but the tissue underneath to keep it supple and stop hardening into underlying scar tissue as it repairs and heals.
