I use a walking stick all the time mainly for my knees. Would I benefit by using a crutch?
Hi Taff1234 I have found that I was more comfortable with crutches. I have tried both a walking stick and one crutch. It seemed to make walking less painful, when using both crutches. I have had stem cell treatment since and don't use crutches now. Good luck.
I have tried two walking sticks but kept tripping over them so a bit if a disaster. Perhaps I should try a crutch..
I use two walking poles which keep you upright and push you along.
Hi X my name is carol I'm 3 months post op I find it better with crutches x
You don't sat when or whether you have had an operation but before my knee op' I used two walking poles for 5 years except in the town e.g. shopping or going short distances. Similarly before my hip op. and afterwards if I go for a country walk. - now after15 months I would not take the risk of walking without poles . Crutches are OK at first but you need to be careful with posture that you don't get hunched up.
I haven't had an op yet, I was told would need one in a couple of years but as I have OA in ankle, back, knee and hips I'm not sure which joint would benefit me.
I also wore knee braces (vulcan) which helped the knee a lot and delayed the knee for an op. which was actually a half knee replacement. I got so used to them I found I had gone to be one night with them on!! As someone else mentioned you would be better using two sticks to give you balanced support for knee and hip
How long will stem cell treatment last? What type of stem cells?
I had it in my knee last year it helped for awhile then went to therapy and my knee is better . Also with better shoes and arch support fallen arches didn't help I can walk with slight limp.
