Crutches

when can i walk unaided without doin

g damage

I was told to ditch both crutches at my 6 week review but everyone is different...go with how you feel but be careful!

As soon as you can walk without limping...ie normal.  my PT woukdnt let me walk withput u til my walking was correct

I am 5 weeks post op and I am still using one crutch, tried without and limping very bad

Don't do anything without checking with your Dr. or P/T first.

Err on the side of caution. It's not an exercise in being machismo (or whatever the feminine equivalent is!!)  Its a question of ''listening'' to your body and remembering this is major surgery and nothing in the post-op weeks should be rushed.

If in doubt ,seek qualifed advice.

I was told after 4 weeks no crutchrs by my physio

Hello Pelvis,

I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op with my 2nd thr. With the Anterior Approach this time. I've been walking steadily with my cane for 9 days now. AMAZING! Compared to being mostly bed ridden for 3 weeks after my first thr with the Posterior Approach. And no ungodly bruises this time either.

But as you continue to hear from everyone. We are all different in the way we heal. So take your time, and continue doing your exercises. Don't give up on yourself. You owe it to YOU, to stay the course for a healthy recovery.

Remember these 3 letters, P.M.A. Positive Mental Attitude! Your self reliance will make you persevere. Stay strong and don't allow outside opinions deter your progress. Keep in mind, that you are doing this for YOU...

I got rid of both my crutches by 5 weeks for my right hip replacement and my left replacement but 6 weeks ago had my right 2 replaced again for the 2nd time at the age of 33 an struggling really bad this time due to the extra scar tissue an nerve damage an been cut open twice so taking longer to heal almost 7 weeks post op an can walk round house Un aided but limping bad an it's uncomfortable so wudnt risk outside wivout my crutches just yet suppose these things take time u will know yaself when ready

Hi

You use the crutches as long as you need them.

Dont be a hero and get rid of them just because others think you should.

I had loads of people say.....Oh my sister had a THR and she was a new woman {when I was struggling with my first one} or she was walking unaided in a week....made me feel awful but the second one I knew bettercheesygrin

Go at your own speed, you get no medals for trying to be a hero
