CT COLONAGRAPHY

Hi has anybody had a CT Colonography - about 6 weeks ago I had a barium enima and the doctor said I had diverticulum and a possible polyp. Then last week I had a colonoscopy and even though I was sedated I woke up in the middle of the exam screaming with the pain. The doctor stopped and started the exam 3 times but in the end abandoned the colonoscopy due to divericulitis, endometriosis and LOW PAIN TRESHOLD !!!!! I had never experienced pain like that. Anyway I now have to have a CT Colonography. Has anyone had one and did work or should I ask for the colonoscopy under general anesthetic ? I too have more diareara - so wish me luck going for my third bowl cleanse with picolax in 8 weeks getting really fed up.

Theres nothing to a CT scan. You get given a litre of aniseed flavoured water to drink, then you go in the scanner, its like a big ring with a sliding bed, then they inject you with the dye and you get a warm tingle throughout your body, starting in the privates and throat. Then they tell you to hold your breath while the machine whirls about, it only takes a few minutes then its over, theres no pain except the scratch when they fit the cannula

Thank you Dr Spock I like aniseed. I am not worried about the pain I had no pain when I had the barium enima but terrible pain when I had the colonoscopy. I just want the doctors to tell me what's wrong and help me get better. Will they be able to diagnose what is wrong with my bowels from this x-ray? Is it as good a tool as a colonoscopy? Just wondered how they could pick up inflammation with a CT scan?.

Thanks again

A CT scan gives quite a detailed view of whats going on inside, if theres anything going on they should get a good look at it
