CTR post surgery

Hello everyone. I had carpal tunnel release surgery on my dominant hand 3 weeks ago. Incision has healed very well but very sensitive which was to be expected. Was curious as to how long that has lasted for some of you. Different for everyone I know but curious as to how long I could be looking at until it subsides. Anything I do do to help it?

Hi Heather

It was explained to me by a physio. She said the sensitivity is caused by the nerves in the skin having lost their memory when they were cut. They need to relearn their role. Touch the scar with lots of different material. I used cotton wool, rough towel, soft toothbrush and even an emery board. Just stroke these materials over the scar, it will 'go through you' but very quickly cures the sensitivity. It sounds as if you are doing really well and the only other advice I can give is listen to you body, do whatever you want but your body will tell you when it is too much. Most people experience odd, often unexpected pain for several months but this subsides

hope you continue to recover well

best wishes Elaine

Thank you very much. Will do that. The surgery was a success for me. Have had no numbness or any other very unpleasant symptoms I use to have since the surgery.

I think in my case i may have over used hands after surgery.  i know they say use hands but they dont clarify use i may have damaged hands from over use.  i now feel that resting hands was good

I have been using my hand since the surgery just in moderation. Was told not to lift, push or pull anything with weight for 6 weeks to let my wrist heal
