Morning Hippies and Hippies to be!

Sat at work pre op, a little bored so my mind begins to wonder... What types of hips has everyone got? Ive chose a ceramic once i get it done, however not sure on the combination (reading on net that there is different combos?)

Hope everyone is having a good day

Good morning pre hippie. I have ceramic with metal chosen by my surgeon as best suited to state of my bones. Day 25 all going well and think I have turned the corner with 2 nights reasonable sleep. Soon I will be skipping into town x

hi, i am 43yrs old, 8 days post op, had Depuy Corail stem and Pinnacle cup which is a ceramic on ceramic, the stem is made of titanium....

good luck,

i cant wait to have a good nights sleep! Have a good day xbiggrin

I have ceramic on plastic.  It was meant to be ceramic on ceramic but they had problems seating the ceramic 'cup' of the joint so replaced it with a polyeurethane one instead. Almost 4 weeks post op and going very well!

I have ceramic not sure what cup I have, I'll have to ask what my post op

Thank you x

Hi Linzi,

Am 53 was feeling 103 but hip now feeling 33 as just over 5 weeks TLHR making steady but good improvement with no aches and pains like pre op days.  I had a total titanium with just a ceramic cup fitting and now a proud owner of a hippie medic passport for future flights should they set off the alarms. Welcome to the hippie club, a great support forum so keep us informed at anytime how you r progressing. Good luck and best wishes.

Hi Kevin.

Where did you get your hippie passport from? I'm dreading setting the alarms off when I go on holiday. Are you in the UK.?

thanks Val x

Thanks Kev x

By the time I had been on list for 15 months I didn't care what they have me as long as it wasn't metal .

I Ppam 60 ,  12 weeks in this week and had ceramic on ceramic which they give to younger patients ( me young! )

at 6 weeks check up dr told me to look after it as it is hoped to last me a life time !

Good luck

mary

Hi linzi, I,m 68 very active, fit as a fiddle, 24 day post op, no idea what sort of hip replacement I,ve got , never thought to ask the question. But it feels great , walking very easey with one crutch, no pain, still some mussel stiffness. No pain relief needed just Red Wind and the odd Guiness (or two).

best wishes

Hi,

A card was given to me when discharged by the hospital quack with details of my op and the metal fittings. Am in Gravesend, Kent, UK. Where are you ?. And if you also don't mind....when is your op ?.  More than welcome to answer any more pre or post op questions you may have. Best wishes and warmest regards to you.

Hi Linzi,

I'm 46 , only left hip needed replacingdue to combinatin of fai and horse riding, physical job, involved in youth football coaching, surgeons choice n i didnt argue was ceramic on ceramic, should last 20 years+ . smile

Hi linzi

Ceramic on ceramic, surgeon chose it as it is the one that should last longest and due to my age 58 and I hobby of walking is the most durable for me.

I had my op 9 weeks ago , I'm in East yorkshire. I wasn't given anything when I left the hospital & didn't even get to see my consultant when I went for my check up.

I have flights booked to USA in May , I have a pic of my X-ray on my phone taken after surgery. I'll try showing them that & just hope they let me in!
