I know that this is not a serious or worrying problem but it is puzzling... And I was wondering if anyone else has experienced it. It has made me laugh, which is always a good thing and a novelty for a steroid side effect.... I am presuming it is a side effect.
I started on 15mg Prednsolone in July 2014, I am now 70 and for these 70 years I have had straight hair.. Very straight hair.... 2 weeks ago, while reducing to 8mg, my hair became wavy / curly... What?... It hasnt changed in texture at all but what's with the curls?
Does anybody know, will my hair stay like this once I come off the steroids?
I know of someone to whom this happened. They keep their hair so short that I don't know if it is still curly. What a bonus. At least I think so. I'd like my hair to thicken up. I hope the curly/ wavy hair continues if you like it.
Yes it us true ... My hair has gone curly I just wash and go...saves a lot of time... My family say it's getting curlier by the pill... I Am on 11ml Prednisalone have been on them for a year....
My hair has been straight and very fine all my life. With pred it became very dry and straw like and started to get curly, it actually looked awful. Last time I was at the hairdressers I had it cut very short so it is even more curly. A lot of people have said it makes me look younger and short looks really funky. People also asked if I had had it permed. As Tisser says it is great I can now wash and go! Now I am getting used to it I hope it stays curly.
Oh my gosh, me too! I notice the icky dryness first, and yes, curls! So hard to comb out! I pile on the detangler and leave in conditioner, and now use Argon shampoo, recommended by someone here! If I dry it straight it surprisingly looks thicker! Otherwise fine. And now I can go 3 days without washing verses before. It's so hot here I always put in pony tail or bun. Refuse to cut hair short, it's too fine and I was called a boy a few times as a kid when it was short. but am sick of all the hair I'm losing...assuming it's increased due to meds. But can't tell on my head...hope it stays that way! Maybe it's normal loss.
You are right about combing it out. I brush my hair initially which improves it a bit. I don't think I would ever be able to just comb it, it is so tangled. I use Argan shampoo, conditioner and spray. I have tried everything including something used on horses' mains which cost a fortune.
Interesting, we have a conditioner one hair dresser told me about called Mane and Tail, but it's dirt cheap here and I didn't find it to work. Ha, it's probably a nock off of something better.
i like one we have here (in states) called Aussie 3 minute miracle.
I like Aussie products too. The horse one was not Mane and Tail, I got it off Amazon, but it is no longer there. It probably has been withdrawn because it does something dreadful to your hair!! It did not help mine.
I had forgotten about the strong nails. I was not sure if that was the pred or the vit D. The only trouble is every so often I manage to scratch my face with my super talons. I am a bit like Edward Scissorhand!
My hair has always been very fine & curly I'm having the opposite problem with my prednione. It turned my hair to straw and it's very coarse and unruly. I looked like a giant Brillo pad most of the time (I'm not kidding!!! lol) until I found Wen cleanser/conditioner and Argan oil. I can make it look somewhat decent now, but it's still a struggle.
Oh my goodness!!!! I didn't even notice!!! Wow! My nails ARE stronger!
Though still have wrinkly ridges on top. Gee, even filed them today and didn't realize they are stronger...I've never had nice nails, always split, break, ...not a nail gal... So funny Lodger and Ptolemy! thanks!
