I had a cystoscopy yesterday. I was very nervous when I was told by my doctor to undergo the procedure. I quite remember in 2004 I had a similar one but was put to sleep so when the Doctor told me it will be performed with my eyes on, I was a little bit skeptical. Got in the clinic with this fear built in mind but the fear disappeared when the nurse injected me with a medicine to numb my penis. The doctor then used a tiny camera and inserted it in my penis and pushed it slowly to my bladder and other parts. The only discomfort I felt was when it hit my prostate. The experience was not difficult as I envisaged. Technology has developed to extend that things that were difficult to do of late as become easy to cope by.
Mike. Hello. There are 2 kinds of Cystoscopy . The one you just had was a regular one. The other is a rigid one that one they put you to sleep. Had both Have a great day. They should have told you before you had it Ken
I have had both, a flexible cystoscopy with a local, and a rigid cystoscopy with a general anaesthetic. Had no problems with either.
Hello Michael -
I had a similar experience last November, where my Urologist used a flexible scope. My urethra was numbed the same way as yours was. I had a very pleasant sensation throughout, with the scope passing through the prostate being the most pleasant. I'm on-board for a repeat test if the doctor says she needs one. I see her this coming Thursday.
