Dairy v calcium

What is this about pred in morning and calcium at lunchtime? Does this mean I should not eat yoghurt or eat  dairy for breakfast ,and by calcium are we talking tablets or dairy foods?

LO.Gymjen, I thik you will find find the calcium is a vit D + calcium tablet.not to be taken at the same time as pred.I take yogurt and fruit with my pred 5ish mornings. Dave.

Thanx David ,will carry on with yoghurt in morning.

Oh goody goody. Hope you are right for I drink and eat so much calcium products and love them all. Would hate to give any of them up. MaryKay

I think it's more to do with pred or calcium not being absorbed well if taken together. Dairy for breakfast is fine so it must be that calcium is not absorbed when taken with pred or they would say no dairy at breakfast, I take my calcium as a divided dose at lunch and evening time, they say a little fat is needed for calcium to be absorbed.

Calcium tablets or Calichew is what we were talking.  It never entered my mind that anyone would relate it to natural dairy products.   Sorry.

Thanks for the information. This type of knowledge could prove to be very important as the dose is being tapered to the lower levels. It could even prevent a relapse. . Drugs (dot) com has the following statement. Any other knowledge of pred/supplement  information would be appreciated.

prednisone ↔ calcium carbonate

Applies to:prednisone and Calcium 600 D (calcium/vitamin d)

Antacids and agents with acid-neutralizing effects may impair the absorption of dexamethasone, prednisolone, prednisone, and other corticosteroids, although data from published studies are somewhat conflicting. The mechanism of interaction and clinical significance are unknown. No particular intervention is necessary during concomitant therapy with these agents, but clinicians should be aware of the potential forinteraction.

I have been taking Calcium 600 D and Predisolone since October 2013, reducing from 20mgs to 7mgs at present.   Normally with half an hour gap between the 2 tablets mentioned above. I have PMR and also Atrial fibrillation for which my medications include Digoxin, Bisoprorol and Warfarin. What a concoction but I feel everything is under control, luckily...

Glad to say no bad relapses.  I am reducing Preds by 1/2 mg every 4 weeks Smiles
