Hey guys. I have been suffering from Lichen Planus since last 1.5 years. My rashes have cleared up but I am left with dark spots all over my body except my face. Can anyone tell me in how much time will they clear up and how ?
I’m not there yet. How did your lichen planus clear up? I have had it for two years.
Many people say that the spots have not gone away for years…If they bother you, you can use any super high pigment foundation- not the stuff you can buy at a drug store- like Dermablend. This one is formulated for people who have vitiligo and varicose veins, so great coverage. At least the spots are better than the rash!!! Hang in there. Glad your rash is gone.
My doc did not give me steroids as according to him they have serious side effects and would not be effective when I stop taking them. He put me in Qutock , Ecovin , Atarax and LFT as he wanted to improve my liver although all test for LFT came out ok. In around a year , rashes cleared and new spots stopped coming
Hey. Dermablend like Vichy Dermablend ? Also i am looking for more permanent solution if any. Did your spots go away ?
I wish my doctor would have told me that. I am weening down on prednisone now at 10 mg daily for two weeks. I have changed my diet to a more plant based way of eating seeing a change but not gone yet.
You can check for these medication and talk to your Doctor. I also now think that liver plays a part in lichen planus and a healthy liver along with less stress will help in clearing up rashes faster
Yes, like that for the Dermablend. Not all my spots have gone, but when I get a flare, I get new ones!
Thanks for sharing. Would surely try.

my doc advised giving up nightshade plants to clear my OLP, along with bullous lp, as there are toxins that aggrevate inflammatory illnesses. it has really helped me a lot. as soon as i eat one, especially any peppers, my mouth becomes inflamed within couple of hours, but goes away in about 12 hours if don’t eat any more.
That is great to know. I wish my dermatologist would give me that advice. He wants me to continue on trying more meds. I am 95% plant based diet now. I have been steering away from nightshades as well just because I want to get rid of this. it’s not in my mouth but on my forearms. I am down to 10mg prednisone and I go down to 7.5mg next week. what do I do if it still flares? I want off all meds for good.
Wendy, my doc gave me a cream in a tube to rub on the blisters/spots that really helped. it’s fluocinonide .05% . it took away the itch and burn. i had only one episode on my body, and so far no others. mine is all oral. Stress is a trigger. Did you notice any improvement after avoiding nightshades? I’m sorry that i can’t be more helpful, but this is the total of my information, I’m afraid.
I too am covered with dark skin pigmentation from my latest flare, which lasted about 6 months. My dermatologist said 18 months before my pigmentation returns to normal.
Hey gunjan79246 - I have had those dark spots many times after an outbreak. They usually go away on their own after about 6 months to a year. I use coconut oil or some kind of moisturizer. It happens especially on my legs. Right now they are still fading on my legs from an outbreak that started August 1st. Don’t use steroids on them (unless you are in the middle of an outbreak) as steriods thin the skin and may make them look worse. Also, don’t use steriods on scars either, as they will stretch and appear worse. Your derm doc should tell you about this. Steriods are only for active outbreaks, and even then I try to use as little as possible. I take benadryl at night, which usually tamps down the itching so I can get some sleep! So, bottom line is that the brown spots will fade months after the outbreak clears, just be patient. I know it looks bad, but be comforted in the fact that they usually will fade. Good luck and take care.
