daughter has just told me she has been having blood in her stools for over 2 weeks thanks

hi not sure if anyone can help,my daughter has been diagnosed with joint hypermobilty syndrome, she has just undergone knee surgery and takes medication for a overactive bladder and has a underactive thyroid and a vit d defficency, she has just told me that she has noticed bright red blood in her stools when wiping ,her stool are mostley small causesing pain when passing them, also she has pain from her  back passage when she is urinating, she usually empties her bowel once very 2 to 3 days ,but is going a lot more times at the moment.im not sure if this could be piles or summet more serious,my brother has coeiliac disease  and my uncle and cousin both have chrones disease, not sure if these to are heridetry or could be linked with joint hypermobility syndrome,i will be seeking docs advice first thing in the morning with her

Hi Lisa, I've had bright red blood in my stools for 9 months now, bright red is the best colour to have. Sound like it could be piles or inflammation, and that it's coming from near the end of the bowel. My advice would be to get her to see a doc and get referred for a sigmoidoscopy - a lot less messing than a colonoscopy and it should check whats going on in the last third of the bowel.

Pits most probably nothing to worry about but it's best to get it checked. My step daughter had blood in her stools for a year before she got it checked, it turned out to be piles. They still haven't found out the cause of my bleeding but I know it's nothing sinister as they've had a look. Puts my mind at rest. Also they can biopsy for Crohns or coeliac so you should be able to rule those out at the same time.

Good luck smile

thank you stella for your reply it has helped.she has had blood before but only lasted a couple of days which i put it down to a cut or tear but will deffo get it checked out

Sometimes the doc can just do a rectal exam and diagnose piles or a fissure. Better than worrying at home x
