Got my staples out today 2 weeks from surgery. Nurse thought part of the scar was slightly inflamed & put iodine dressing with steri strips on & a light dressing. To be checked by GP on Thursday next. She thinks it might be a reaction to the staples...... Has anyone else had this happen? Other than that I'm pain free & moving & sleeping quite well. Even on my back which I never thought I would be able to do. Scar is very itchy & stingy but I think that's part of the healing process. Swelling nearly gone. Mostly in my ankle now strangely enough😱
Good morning gossip -
I am very happy for you that you are pain free, and sleeping well ...
that part of the scar that is inflamed, is there any seepage or just a bit swollen and warm - Mine were taking out on day 12 and there were 3 spots close to the incision side that were sort of tighter and sore .... a little bleeding through the puncture of staple -
itchy and stingy for sure and defo part of the healing process - so much trauma was done there - so many layers have to be repaired -
the swelling in the ankle will go down -
one day at a time darling -
love and big warm hug

Great to hear you are pain free and able to lie on back. I found that so hard and now 3 months on I lie on back a lot. The itch and sting are healing. I hope your inflation clears up soon.
Blessings from the north.
Well done Gossip, I too still find myself lying on my back after all this time never thought that would ever be comfortable but it is Love Gill xx
Hi Renee. There's no seeping from the incision just a bit red & inflamed for a few inches of scar. Nurse thinks it's just a re too. To staples. I'll keep the ice on it & see if it goes down. Thank you for your reply x
that's good --- 2 top staples on my scar left some irritation and swelling too ... I felt that the skin was a bit too tightly stapled .. kept dressing on because I couldn;t handle the rubbing of panties against it -
oooooh, just to be able to scratch right there !!!!!!
I know it's so tempting to scratch so I gently drum my fingers up & down where it's irritated. Ice numbs it too. Is yours still itchy? How long since your last op?
Oh can't offer any help or advice I'm afraid, just to say I have my staples removed on Monday and I'm so nervous. I've never had anything like this before x
It's 30 days since my 2nd THR and 26 weeks after 1st ... weird things, scars .... sometimes I feel the old one, little stabs underneath and if it is shrinking - for some reason to touch and rub something on it feels odd - I don;t feel my fingers touching the scar ... dead skin ....
but they both look like perfect zippers
billiemaw .... I was nervous twice (2 THR surgeries within 6 months) - the last one took less than 5 minutes - 26 staples needed to be removed - He told me to just stand next to the table, lean over (kinky) pull down my pants a little and it was done ....little pricks and the upper ones were a wee bit tight ... but what a relief afterwards ...
good luck
warm hug

Having the staples removed is painless just a tiny sting for each but not painful. Don't be worrying. My inflamed piece of scar is already feeling better so I do think it's an allergic reaction to staple metal & have kept ice on since staples out yesterday & taking it a bit easier too. Which helps I'm sure. Take care & let us know how you get on after on Monday.
Aww thanks. I have found myself worrying about the simplest of things re this new hip! It's all so foreign to me tho, I have never had anything like this before, no stitches, staples, operations etc.....you are all helping no end tho and putting my mind at rest. Thank you x
