Well I am on day 2 after LTHR. Spent my first day so tired that I could barely do a thing. Nodded off every five minutes, even in the middle of doing other things. But I got a really good night's sleep last night, so now I can last an entire hour without nodding off
Crossed fingers, no real pain at all. More of a dull ache or soreness. I'm hoping to get home today but it may be tomorrow as my consultant is being ultra careful about possible infection etc., due to complexities - when the hip collapsed in the summer he was concerned about infection indicators in my blood tests that were unexplained. But hopefully tomorrow at the latest.
Physio is hard work but getting there! It's frustrating that one time I can manage the movement and the next time I cannot shift the leg at all. But I am walking reasonably well - by the first walk I was doing better than I had for several weeks before surgery! So it's onwards and upwards and waiting for breakfast. Luxury - someone else makes breakfast!
Sounds like you're doing great Beth! I found I had a bit more pain on days 3 and 4 but now, day 13, the pain from the incision is minimal and I can feel myself getting stronger every day.
Hi there. Interesting to hear your news, sounds just great! My new left hip is officially 1 week old today- YAY! All gone incredibly well, home on day 5 & continuing to mobilise well around the house though no wish to venture outside - brrrr! I do get varying levels of pain in the scar area, sometimes really uncomfortable so just keep taking the paracetemol & a lttle codeine. All in all a great success! Keep up your good work too 😀
I just read your previous post ... How is your ankle ? and the medical staff ?
Nodding in agreement re: physical therapy --- it is hard work and requires a lot of patience ...
Did you have the posterior or anterior approach?
Be very kind to yourself --- no need to get frustrated (yet or ever!) - you probably read it bizillion times, but you are very early in recovering from major invasive surgery ...
please keep sharing about how you are getting on ...
It's a different hospital, and the staff were great. The ankle though has to wait for the hip. I have an appointment for it on 1 st December. I'm actually home now, so it was a day and a half from the operation to home. My operation finished at 10pm on the election night so I drifted in and out of sleep watching that. It was posterior. But I do generally feel great!
I am on day 2 of anterior bilateral hip replacements. Had spinal sedation so no icky stomach afterward. PT and OT today and they were very pleased with my mobility. Had watched a YouTube video of actual surgery so know pretty much where each pain is coming from.
Doing good Beth, you'll be up and about before you know it. First week is hardest, second week better, third week see the end of the tunnel, I'm at about 3 1/2 months feeling almost good as new. Don't be afraid to use the one crutch for support, you can get more exercise without hurting yourself, worked for me. PTs are always in a hurry to get you off crutches, maybe too soon, it's your hip.
Congratulations! Sounds like you are doing very well. I am on my 2nd day out from surgery and have muscle soreness and stiffness, but don't have that bone deep pain any longer. Keep up your physio. It is weird how you can do one movement one hour and can't do it the next. The hardest thing for me is moving the operated leg side to side. The PT had me put a plastic trash bag under my leg and that helps. Make sure to take your drugs. I eased off yesterday and was paying for it last night. Enjoy the luxuries of someone waiting on you for a change!
You are doing so great! This morning is my day 3. I am waiting nervously for my first bandage change. Will watch your progress and try to keep up. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
