Day 21 post posterior repair and need some cheer 😢

Hello ladies

I have been feeling so positive for the last few days, but now feel the lowest I have for a while. I feel nauseous this evening and whilst I haven't got the external issues some of you have described, I do feel very tender inside. Whilst not constipated, my digestive system is not happy about all the chemicals I am introducing. I feel bloated and uncomfortable and have a headache. I just feel ill and I am fed up and cross.

When will I start to turn a corner? I need some light at the end of this tunnel (normally I would be amused by that unintended pun, but.... 😬)

Helen

Hello Helen

I am waiting for my first consultation to assess my situation, I am expecting to need at the very least anterior repair. Glad to have found this forum, so very supportive and encouraging. From what I have three weeks or so in you can feel worse, which is grim after feeling ok and on the mend. I am sure other ladies who have been where you are now will reply tomorrow and  give you lots of good advice and encouragement - I just wanted to reply rather than see your post without a reply yet!!

Although you say you are not constipated, your body has had to deal with lots of chemicals (as you say) and feeling headachy and nauseous could simply be a result of overload, processing all the pain meds etc and healing. Drink loads of water and get lots of rest, if you feel you have a fever or do not feel better soon see your GP to rule out infection.

Hope you you feel better soon xx 🙂

Keep smiling Helen; these set backs are sent to try us!!! My plans have all gone out the window this week and I have just headed back to bed for the week pretty much so far! On the plus side I am reading some really good books and trying to be positive about this 'me' time rather than frustrated: easier said than done but I'm trying!

If things are more uncomfortable get checked by the GP, that is what they are there for and keep the tummy moving with whatever it takes, it's still early days remember. Big hugs xx

I am day 11 post op and I have to say other than a tiny bit uncomfortable and slight bleeding I am fine. Have resumed my old routine without overdoing lifting etc.

So please for anyone who may be having this op some heal really well and aren't off their feet for too long.

If I'd read this forum before with all the negativity I don't think I'd have had the operation. Sometimes you have to choose your attitude. I'm a busy lady and can't afford to be held up in bed for weeks.

Hi Sue

I was Like you and doing really well but had a setback with a stitch abscess yesterday at day 18. I am busy too and certainly can't afford to be in bed for weeks but equally you can't help getting an infection.

This forum is for people to come to with their worries so accordingly there is bound to be more worries here than positive stories and I'm sure people realise that pre-op. I don't think it is negativity or a choice of bad attitude and I think it's a bit unfair on all the lovely ladies on here to suggest that.

I hope you continue to heal brilliantly but if you have any unavoidable problems that arise rest assured we will all be here for non judgemental support. Trina x

Hi Helen,

I haven't had any repair surgeries yet, but I know from other op recoveries I've had, getting the right type of analgesia and medicine for other unwanted unpleasantries can sometimes need reviewing; perhaps you could see if that's a possibility with your GP. Recovery can be so very difficult, but some things can be controlled better and not left to just endured.

I find that ginger or peppermint, even if just the smell or a couple of sips of tea can help dull the sensation of nausea a little, enough for me to feel that I'm taking back some control over my body which helps me deal with things better. Reviewing your medication with the GP might offer help as well, and of course check that you're alright with those things and there isn't ant contraindications.

Hope that you're feeling better in your recovery soon.

Edith

Thank you for replying, especially as you haven't even had your surgery yet! I wish you well with your plans and hope all goes well for you xx

Thanks Trina. Make the most of your rest, heal well and share your book reviews 😀 Xx

I am glad your experience is so positive. We are all different and all out journies are unique. Mine has been a mixture of both, but mostly positive I have to say. Last night was a dark moment when I was alone and needed reassurance.

Thank you Edith, that is a very sensible suggestion. I couldn't see the wood for the trees last night xx

Just opened my mail today Helen and really sorry to hear you are feeling bad, rest up well and I really hope things improve again soon. It really is a bit of a roller coaster ride, never quite sure what the next day will bring xx

Really sorry to hear this Helen, you seemed to be doing well, hope things improve again really soon, enjoy the rest and reading. It really is a bit of a roller coaster ride from day to day and not one we want to be on! Thinking of you xx

Oh dear my tablet was playing up and ended up sending 2 replies this website does occasionally play up 🙄 xx

It can be so horrible can't it! I'm glad you are feeling a bit better today, we just have to allow ourselves to feel whatever we feel freely, but know it is not forever. We're allowed to have an ebb and flow of confidence and control, which sometimes means a day of sofa dwelling, a cry and call for love and comfort! X

Hi helen:  So sorry you are feeling bad when you were doing so well.  Don't let it get you down, girl....I had my operation for anterior and posterior four weeks ago today.  Sometimes I feel so good that I forget that I even had the surgery and have to rest when I'm tired.

Other times, especially after a bowel movement, my stitches start to hurt and I feel extremely tired.  I'm retired from work so I get to lie down when I want to.  I don't know if I could have had this surgery if I were still working. I was a paramedic and had to life heavy stretchers.  I think that is what got me into the mess I was in in the first place..lol....I also have major back problems, which help me to get tired soon.  Please hang in there sweetie...I will get better....HUGs....xxxxooo

Day 21 is very very early in your recovery and following any surgery you feel out of sorts for some time. The anaesthetic causes changes in the blood stream and digestive system and when any patient had an incision then blood cells are disrupted and that takes time to recover. Of course you'll turn a corner, we all do but it takes time and sometimes when you are feeling like this Mother Nature is telling you to slow down and rest.

Thank you all you lovely ladies for your helpful words and suggestions and positive support: Edith, Tuleden, Trina, Sue, Carole and Matron. It really helped me and I have had a great day today, proving your reassurance to be spot on. This is the first major surgery I have had, so I don't know what to expect and neither does my body.

Every day is indeed different, and rather than choosing our attitude which is a big ask when resources are challenged, we can accept that the road to recovery is a hilly one, rather than a straight one!

Hugs for you all.

Helen

Sorry Gill - I knew I would miss someone in the list! Thank you to you too😘

Hi Helen

Only just read these messages. I'm sorry to hear you're fed up lovely. It really is so hard and as you are finding its often the case of two steps forward, one step back. I too have good days. Yesterday I went out and walked (slower than usual ) for 40 mins. I felt so good and though I was tired later, I felt that a walk in the sunshine was good for me.

However, today I've been tearful and feeling quite isolated, which is not like me at all.

There are all sorts of feelings involved , like worrying about going back to work etc. So any time you feel down, so just like you did, come on here and let off steam. We're all with you hun.

Chin up and lots of love

Sue xx
