Hello
what ap is this ?
how do you carry your phone with you at all times ????
Hi Tammy,
I set a goal for how many minutes exercise a day and increased it daily, it also counts my steps but as Jay has pointed out, you need to have your phone on your person all the time and I failed miserably at that.
I find keeping it in my pocket is just not practical and have managed to drop it in the hay shed, on the muck heap and every other place you can think of, mind you it keeps me active looking for it 😂
I have a samsung Jay and its on an app called S Health which is already on the phone, otherwise go to the app store and download it (free), just search for "step counter".
Best wishes, Dot.
Hadn't thought about carrying my phone ....what about hooking it on my walker? I will let you all know how it goes 😊🙏
I have the iphone6 and just go to the AppStore and search steps it comes right up 😊
I have a step counter but have to make sure to wear pocket trousers. I don't set a goal but I do get a buzz when I get a good reading at the end of the day. Mine is over sensitive tho and I have to turn it off if in the car as it keeps on reading.
Hi Tammy,
OK, 'Ive a Galaxy 5 phone, and the app came with the phone! As was said earlier, you've got to have it on you all the time for it to count all steps, but mostly I do anyway....
NHS recommend 10,000 steps a day for someone 30-40 years old. So, by intuition I pared that down to 5K a day at the age of 70yo, and now raised the bar to 6K as I recover. I reckon I cover this 70% of days! 10% days more than 10K, and 20% less than 3.5K. I don't over worry about it, but like a goal to keep me aware that walking is one of the best recovery exercises!

If only we were marsupials, then Joey could hold it and play a game if he got bored 😉 not that that would help you Mic 😘 x
I thought about getting a step counter but I'm so OCD that I was worried that I would set an unrealistic goal for myself and overdo. I knew approximately how many steps it was to various areas in the house so I had a general idea of the number of steps I was doing but I let my body be my guide. I always completed my daily exercises dictated by my physical therapist and then did whatever else I felt up to. It usually meant lying down for a bit and walking around for a bit. 4 weeks out now and I'm up and around more and more. You will be too.
Hi tammy I have samsung galaxy I downloaded free pedometer and don't carry all day with me but just when I go for outdoor walk . As I can measure how and fast I can walk therefore am trying to increase how far I walk each day so you can either keep to same time distance and increase how fast you walk it or simply increase number steps you take and increase distance (hope that makes sense )

Hi Denise
Interesting ! Would love to learn more of your step count and time challenges, either here or in a pm. Sounds really good.

Hello
I am 59 and do not know how many steps I should be doing each day . I am 2 weeks post THR
Hi Jay,
Greetings. Well for me it was slow but sure...I aimed at 1000 steps a day for first 4 weeks. Surprised how many steps achieved thru simple pottering!
Cheers
Mic
Hi Jay,
I wasn't given any guidance about how much I should walk, either, but I guessed the first week, just going to the bathroom or kitchen would be about 50 steps. So I agree with Mic, "pottering" around the house can add up. Try doing about 50 or 100 steps and then rest. Listen to your body. You will find that very soon you will be able to do more steps at a time and more steps in a day. But don't push yourself too much. Perhaps your physical therapist could give you a number to shoot for, but again, listen to your body and don't try to do too much.
Hi mic I started monitoring mine in 2nd week just when going out for 30 min walks and am averaging 3500 steps . Got bit pain on Fri so rested up sat sun (think overdid it as was bit un- even ground) back on track now but don't monitor steps round house . But I'm type person that likes to challenge myself so it's all about personal goals for me and we are all different I need to see I'm improving even if by 10 steps a day
Good luck
Denise
I bought a small pedometer - its about 3 inches by 1 inch and can be worn around the neck, clipped on clothing or put in a pocket - so easy to have all the time. I'm just trying to increase my steps day by day - 5 weeks post op tomorrow and at about 3000 at the mo. Planning on using it when I go back to work (office job,) to try to make sure I keep moving enough.
