Day 5 post op and I can't go to the toilet - help

5 days after TAH and feel horrible. Hot sweats and now I can't go to toilet. Got terrible cramps. I have taken a dulcoease.  I am also getting a heaviness in my chest at various moments in the day which is really uncomfortable. Can anyone help me?

Poppy buy some Movicol from the chemist it really works, it takes the bloating away and helps with the loo. I can't praise this product enough, the chemist and a nurse have advised me to use it.

I also had the feeling in my chest but it does go eventually.

My op was 11 days ago and i am experiencing a tight feeling in my head with pain all down my neck. I don't know if it is a tension headache as i get my results next monday.

Good luck x

Hi, I am now 5 months post op.

Everything you are describing I experienced.  Eat small meals, add bran to your breakfast cereal and dring as much water as you can.  Rest, rest and rest some more, let others look after you.

I still have a bruised feeling in my stomach and find excercising very difficult.  I had a tumour so had no choice but to have TAH, just had a smear test which came back negative thank goodness.

you have had major surgery, look after yourself.

Hi Lee

So sorry you are really suffering.  sad

Have you got any oil of peppermint, a few drops in a glass of water, about 3 times a day will help the cramps.  Movicol as well as your dulcoease should help.  You can take up to 3 movicol a day.  Your chest is probably the anesthetic and should wear off in a few days time.   Eat lots and lots of veg and fruit, it will help with the toilet problem.

Really hope you start to feel a bit better soon.

I am also a Movicol fan!  I took it daily for the first couple of weeks - as the 'toilet' was an issue for me in many ways!!!  I think psychologically (as well as physically) it is scary which means that we are inclined to be scared to 'push' at all!  I am four weeks post op and all normal in that department now.  I got the cramps and they were painful... I ordered peppermint oil, but by the time it arrived I was normal.  I would definitely ask the GP about the chest pains, but it may be related to anxiety, or hopefully will be relieved when you have a nice big poo!!!  Deffo take Movicol for that! Good luck. xxxx

Hi Poppy

Snap!! Im 5 days post op and feeling dreadful today exact same reasons as you. My partner has bought me some sliced pears as someone told us they really help. I have been taking dulcoease to but nothing so far. Am hoping a chemist is open today as want to try this Movicol that has been mentioned on here quite a lot. Also getting these feelings in my chest glad they appear to be normal. Also very weepy todaycryWe live in Brighton so we are going in the car down to the seafront find and enjoy a little bit of the easter sunshine

Take care

That sounds great but I haven't managed to get dressed since coming home. This is rubbish. And the hot flushes ain't helping x

have a good day

Hi

Glad to head you've had it done. I had mine 3 days ago and never thought the feeling on my tummy would be like this! It's definately an operation not to be taken lightly. Day 2 was my worst so far, I am waiting to be discharged at the minute. That heavy feeling in your chest? If it feels like you can't breathe or it's hurting you to breathe the nurse told me here that You must phone for ambulance and tell them you had major surgery. Also make sure your legs don't swell, go red or feel tight as that's a sign of a blood clot. Good luck with your recovery, I know it's gruelling x

Hi Diane

Try lots of veg.  I eat piles of them with every meal.  Brussels Sprouts particularly are excellent for a 'good movement', he! he! I bet you are going to tell me now you don't like veg!   I was dreading the BM as that was where a lot of my surgery was but it took me by surprise redfaceand I have had no problems, so eat your veg.  He! he! now I am sounding like my granny!  razz

This is why grannies in the old days always used to say 'eat all your greens'.

Hope you enjoyed Hove seafront.  We used to live in Brighton, Hove and Worthing lovely bracing sea air.  It brought back lots of memories when you mentioned Hove Sea Front.

We live near Sandringham now, very pretty and only 15 mins from the sea so the best of both worlds really.  smile

Hope you will be feeling more comfortable soon.

how are you feeling as very recent op isn't it.  and honestly does it hurt lol

Hi Neverstaysstill

Yes had my op on the 3rd April.  Very shocked  to come round with no drug button to press, was looking forward to that!  Seriously though I am only on a small dose of paracetamol and that is for 'bum' pain.  My surgeon said it would be painful for about 4 weeks as he had put the bowel way up back where it should be.  Actually apart from the odd twinge,  it is just on sitting down it takes my breath away but once in position it is fine.  I am amazed at having so little pain and no toilet problems which I thought would be the worst, thought I would be in for a very rough ride there!

Have had two little walks outside today.  Have a sleep every afternoon, very enjoyable with hubby and Rosie my Shih Tzu.

Apart from the hospital buzzers going 24/7 and the vaginal pack coming out the entire experience was great.  So so glad it is done, and so so grateful to my wonderful surgeon.

Take care and you will soon be joining us all on the other side.  Let me know how you get on.
