Day 6 - and still sleepy

This is day 6 for me, on a 15 mg dose. Although I sleep well at night, after waking at 8-ish I don't feel like getting out of bed. I stay in bed until mid-day, still half asleep. I still feel sleepy after getting-up, but this decreases as the day progresses.

I read that \"somnolence\" is a common side effect, but I didn't expect it to be as bad as this. If I weren't retired, with a supportive wife, I think I would have given up on Mirt by now. How does this compare with your experience on starting, and how long was it before things improved?

On the positive side, I haven't had any other troublesome side effects.

Good wishes to all.

I am on day 7 at 15mg. My experience is exactly the same as you. I am having the best sleep I have had for 18 months, I didn't realise how really bad my lack of sleep was. But I cannot get up in the morning at a reasonable time, it is very difficult.

I will be discussing this with the GP as this will effect me when I return to work as I start at 8am.

The only other side effect is increased appetite.

PS I forgot to say that I usually take my tablet at bedtiime and I am asleep within half an hour. Today I am taking the tablet much earlier in the hope that I can get up at a reasonable tiime.

I am taking 30mg at night. Sleepiness during the day is common when you first go onto mirtazapine. This is usually felt during the first few weeks. I am still feeling the soporific effects of mirtazapine although I am on a slightly higher dose. I have also been reducing dothiepin and had a very sleepy weeekend. Things will improve for you both.
