Day 6 from stopping Dehydracodine and I have never felt so ill. Please someone tell me I will feel better soon
Hi Jeanette
You shouldn't really just stop them, you need to reduce the amount very gradually, you could be ill for some time if you have just stopped and it's not good x
I've been on a reduction plan for 2 months now and I'm still taking high amounts but each reduction gets a little easier, I take diazepam at night to help me sleep as the night time withdrawals are dreadful, you get hot/cold sweats and I get sickness, stomach ache and head aches so I need something to help with that, I'll cross that bridge when I'm fully reduced x
I recommend you see a gp, but when you make the apt explain to the receptionist that you need to see a drug specialist or the best gp they have for drug addiction that way you see the right person, some gps haven't a clue and in some instances prescribe higher dosages to help with cravings as the more you take the more your body needs, they have no idea the damage they cause when they do this as if makes the patients life ten times more difficult.
My target is to have a second child and my gp said that if I got pregnant now the baby would highly likely have brain damage, that's the severity of this drug!
I hope this helps you and think about a reduction not cold turkey you could make yourself very ill x
the best way i found was to stop them altogether but start using codiene phosphate instead for about 8wks....when you feel withdrawels coming on take 5 or 6 and keep it up for the time mentioned....you wont crave the dhc instead you will want the cp but believe me the cp are a far far easier to come off....good luck sweetie robbie xx
stay strong you are nearly at the peak another couple of days and the worst of it will be over , I have been off nearly three months now and i'm so happy to have my own mind back its like being born again. Stay strong and positive ill be praying for you God Bless
thanks Gary it's been a rough week the worst part is I'm just getting over a total knee replacement surgery from five weeks ago, so suffering big style without any strong pain relief. I'm still feeling as if I've got the fl, the headaches have passed but still feelin rotten. I'm hoping by next week I will be free of symptoms.
I will never ever take codeine again.
Hi, please keep going you will be over the worst soon. Then every day will get
better. It won't happen overnight, but you will look back and realise just how far
you've come. I myself was like you I have been free for eleven weeks, and I'm so
glad I stuck with it it seems even people who taper slowly have wd so I think if
you can its best the way you've done it otherwise some get down to just a couple
of tablets then are tempted to take more or just continue. I have tried to do other
things to help with pain such as meditation it really does help. If in lots of pain
maybe see your GP for something that is non addictive. Whe in withdrawal
myself I tried ibuprofen and paracetamol I know they are not so strong but they
did help a bit. Well done for where you are now, and stay strong it's worth it.
take care Ann
Thanks for your reply Ann,
i am feeling much better now and hopefully got that drug out of my system. For pain relief I am now using paracetamol and ibruprofen but I hope to be just using paracetamol in another week when my knee is feeling better and once Iv recovered I can stop them with no problems.
that was a hard horrible week I never want to repeat
Hi Jeanette, so pleased to hear your doing so well. It really is worth sticking with
the withrawal as it does get better after the first week. Hopefully your pain
will reduce also. I like you took ibuprofen and paracetamol, which did help a bit.
i think you done the best thing not taking anymore as judging by others it just
prolongs everything, I like you will never take these again. Stay well Ann
how are you getting on ?
Hi Gary
i am much better and feel so much better for having that drug out of my sytem, it was a tough 8 days ad will never take codeine again
thanks for your support x
Hi Jeanette, keep up your fight against the demon that is Diyh codeine, I've been off them for over a year now and it's like I've been reborn, I was not as strong as you seem to be and couldn't get by 3days without taking, I couldn't manage the withdrawel and do the things I done in my lifestyle but then found a way that although not ideal it was the what stopped me and gave me a life back.I'm sure many people will disagree but it's me who's been to that hell and I'm now free
Will tell you how I got off them later Hun, going out to play football.
Can you tell me how you did it please
Iv been on them for about ten years and really need to get off them
Hi Linzey
I just decided one Sunday morning after another night of hot sweats and feeling rough that I was not going to take any more, so I just stopped them, the side effects were awful, vomitting, diarrhoea, shaking, sweats, chills, depressed. I didn't get out of my pj's for 4 days, after a week I started to feel better and each week got better and better. I now take paracetamol if I need pain relief and I'm glad I didn't give up in that first week.
I flushed all my tablets down the toilet the day I stopped them so I wouldn't be tempted to take any. Cold turkey was definatly the best way for me and I now feel normal again . I
Hi Linzey
I went to my drug specialist at the GP surgery almost 6 months ago. I am now one week completely clean of all the painkillers.
Everyone is different and you need to establish what you want to do, I dont recommend cold turkey in the slighest because I ended up in hospital for over a week, my stomach was functioning off the codiene and i had severe stomach problems and ended up having surgery. I would really consider your options especially after 10 years of intake.
The first 2 months of the reduction plan where the hardest for me, the withdrawal symptons consisted of moods, depression, anxiety, paranoia, restlessness, sickness, extreme stomach pain, headahces, exhaustion.....everything really, each reduction came with slightly different withdrawals, however it has worked for me and look where I am now after 8 years! what is 6 months in comparison to 8 years really?
I now feel much better and mentally stable, I am still getting fevers at night time so i dont sleep much, I am being monitored with this as it could be an underlining problem, i am scheduled for blood tests at the end of the month to check my levels as I want to have a baby but cant try until Im 100% fit and well.
I hope you manage to come off them, they really did ruin my life x Good luck x
Hi, I stopped taking these painkillers on new year, I cut down to
just one then went cold turkey, the next four days were really bad
upset stomache hot cold just like really bad flu, but every day from that got a little better after a couple of weeks sleeping improved as well. I'm really glad
to be free from them I feel so much better off of them.
i would suggest you see your GP for some help as you have taken them for a long time, but in can be done if you really want it good luck if I can help
in anyway please ask Ann
How long where you on them please and well-done
I spoke to me gp but just gave me something for the sickness and diorea and said keep going I am really struggling I have 4 kids too so trying to plod along and not let on why I am I'll, I so wish I never ever took them
Hi Linzey
That is awful of the GP, I specifically asked for a drug specialist GP, did you do this before booking? I think most GP's truly have no concept of the seriousness behind these drugs, my drug specialist advised me that herion addicts use dihydracodeine to assist them on there reductions! that shocked me.
I have a 2 year old and it has been a massive struggle, i cant imagine how you are feeling.
I started with minimal reduction and aimed at reducing every week or two depending on how i felt, it got alot easier the less i was taking, I also had to come off diazipam. I can always draw you up my reduction plan which the GP gave me if you are unsure about revisiting your GP, I think if you went cold turkey you need to think about your 4 children because you will be poorly and unable to function properly. My partner came to all my doctors visits and it made him understand the severity of my situation, he then understood to leave me be when i was in a mood or irritable.
Number one priority now is for you to make a plan moving forward, do you call the gp surgery and explain your situation to the receptionist to make sure you see the correct GP or are you willing to go cold turkey, if so when is the best time and can some one take care of your children for minimum a week maybe 2?
I hope this helps, but please be reassured i never thought id be rid of them and im now a week clean, its a very good and proud feeling x
I was hoping to reduce down but said she has out in the computer no to give me any more and if I need it we have a drugs centre in our town but they put you on methadone and that's the last thing I want, I will try once more to see if they will put me on prescription and reduce me down thanks for all your advice I really appreciate it, I'm so pleased you managed to get off them.
