Day 9 of citalopram

Hi all,

I got diagnosed with sever post natal depression 2 weeks ago and a relationship breakup at same time. The dr put me on citalopram 9 days ago I haven't been able to leave house or eat hardly anything I'm still feeling really low and don't want to lose anymore weight. I take 20mg in the morning but don't feel any better and am desperate to feel myself again. Does it get any better?

Unfortunately I didnt make it that long. I too had no appetite among a plethora of other symptoms. The ongoing advice I have read over and over is to stick it out for 2 weeks.. I could not. I did buy some "Ensure" drinks (meal replacement drinks) to help me get calories since only thing that didnt make me want to gag was bananas.

Hi Jane,

I started citalopram about 9 weeks ago after a relationship break up which led me into a severe depression.

The first week I was only on 10mg this was upped to 20mg, I started to feel better after about 2/3 weeks on the 20mg but in this time felt a lot worse I'm not sure if that was the drug or if I'd of felt that anyway as I left it a few months to treat my depression hoping it would go away on its own.

I had 2 good weeks on 20mg but then started to feel worse again, my cit was hoped to 40mg and since then I have felt a lot better with only a few minor blips.

I'm back at work and carrying on with life.  I'm not 100% but I'm a lot better than I was and am much better equipped to deal with my emotions.

Hang in there the first few weeks are tough but it does get better.

Thank you so much for your reply yes inhale been having some shakes and all indian manage everyday is a banana altho did her some toast down me yesterday. I am going to try and stick it out I am on annual leave from work at mo bit due to go back next Monday and dreading it and feel like I'm letting everyone down bring in such a depressive state xx

Thanks lost for your reply yes it's bloody tough dealing with emotions especially when I have kids that I am trying to be strong for. My main worry is eating as I am slim anyway and any weight loss is noticeable. I'm glad that you are feeling a lot better and more positive. I can't wait for that feeling back as can't seem to function at the moment spent last week or so on sofa like a zombie. X

Hi Jane i found the first 2 weeks the hardest on 20mg of cit. I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression last May and have been on them ever since. At first i had problems with eating and sleeping and my anxiety went through the roof. After a couple of weeks these feelings started to ease off and week by week i started to feel strong minded again and more like myself. I know its horrible at first but it will get better. Your not alone and were hear to help you . Get well soon. Paul.
