Started being able to lift leg getting in and out of bed and doing standing exercises and walking with cane. Went to surgeon yesterday and had bandage removed and now have steri strips. Told I should start walking with no supports and just use cane for steps (super modern house with 17 shines wood steps to the second floor.)
So sleeping on my back is my nemesis and I just can't get comfortable so sleep is difficult. Going to look for a good side pillow to put between my legs because my inventions aren't working well.
THANK YOU all soooooo much for your support. You've made this past week actually enjoyable for me just knowing you were there.
Great news for sure!!! I'm on day 10 and each day gets easier. I still haven't got the courage to get in the shower. We have a tub combo. Can't lift my surgical leg over yet. Thank God for baby . Lol!!! I wanted to address your sleeping issues? I am a side sleeper. The first few post op days were the Pitts!! I wound up moving to the recliner each night. Then I pulled up my Big Panties and decided to try something different even though it was painful at first. ........ Take a very firm pillow (I used one from my couch) wedge it between your knees. Now, using your upper body and gripping the pillow tight between your knees, flip over onto non surgical side. I finally slept pretty well. I sure hope this works for you!! Continued blessings for recovery!
I tried the pillow but pt said I needed to keep my legs equidistant down to the ankles. So then I tried 2 which was really entertaining. Going to go out and check out a king sized pillow or get a long piece of foam cut. Glad you're doing well too🙂
You will continue to have milestone days, as well as an occasional down day. Just take it a day at a time, follow Docs orders, and do your therapy. I am a side sleeper so the first 6 weeks were indeed hard. I used to just get out of bed, head to a recliner and read. I am now almost 9 months and feeling great compared to before. Best of luck
Five weeks were the big milestone for me. At three weeks I tried to take myself off meds and it wasn't good. Two weeks later I take an ibuprofen at night and that's it.
As for the sleeping, I was an anterior, but I had both hips done, so I didn't have a good side. The bed wasn't comfortable, and sleeping on your back for more than 2-4 hours is pretty much impossible. I have no recliners, but there's an older soft love seat right outside my bedroom door and once I discovered that, I'd migrate. I'd start out in bed, then when I'd wake up I'd go to the potty and walk (carefully--you don't want to fall!) the several steps to the love seat and prop up my bent knees/legs against the back or alternately straighten them and throw them over the edge (it elevates my feet).
So I have three options for the duration of the night. I think that's the trick--your body/back needs options/variety!
