hi well firstly congratulations on having a new hip
all the symptoms you describe are perfectly normal if you dont get on with morphine or morphine based drugs. once they’re out your system plus all the other meds you’ve been given as part of the OP you’ll feel better. a lot go thro post OP blues / tearful. I certainly did . felt sorry for my youngest daughter who had to take me being tearful etc.
I know when I first stood 2 hrs after the OP I was a afraid it would hurt and b I’d fall over. neither happened. used a Zimmer frame for first 2 days then they swapped me to crutches. I know when they said the day before I was going to try crutches the next day I was certainly worried but it all went well. the ot /physio only try you on the next stage when they think you’re ready.
as for the woozy bit that will be part of the anaesthetic drugs but also the painkillers you’re now on. they gave me 2 tramadol each time but after a day of feeling washed out I got them to give me 1 and that worked as well pain wise but wooziness went.
it helps to drink plenty as well to help get rid of any excess drugs circulating bonus or not need the loo more
anyway good luck in your recovery. I’m 8 weeks post OP today and feel so much better

HI SANDRA

everyone is different listen to your body . im 7 wks post op and if i over do things imy body lets me know be kind to yourself do excersisez and rest
good luck this site is good made me feel loads better

Julie, you describe the first few post op days so well. Looking back to my THR many months ago I am certain that much of the trepidation we feel about damaging our new hip is not necessary. I felt horrified that I would be made to get out of bed and walk about next day - but I did, and it was fine. I find it interesting that so many people mention morphine and tramadol - I was given neither of these, just a thirty days tablet supply of paracetamol, codeine and a blood thinner, yet another friend was provided with a host of hypodermic syringes for self injection and almost a complete chemistry set of other medication.

hi
i felt light headed and nauseous for the first 48 hours and very tired.
the second day following op I cried when ever anyone came into the room from cleaners to consultant.
I found walking around and sitting not a problem but getting in and out of bed horrible, i am now day 6 and each day feeling better, even have an appetite now.
The swelling is going to he around for a while unfortunately, have just ordered a cool wrap as i dont have anything big enough.
TAKE EACH DAY AT A TIME.
you will get there

hi. yes I think the concoction of dugs varies from hospital to hospital and probably surgeon to surgeon. I had a pre op dose of ? oxycontin and then another 12 hrs after then was on tramadol paracetamol and ibuprofen for 4 days. discharged on codeine paracetamol and ibuprofen. also had dissolveable asprin for 4 weeks no injections of anti coagulants. usually have to wear ant symbolic stockings for 6 weeks but as they said they were too tight and took them off ( sd would cause more problems than they solve being tight) I didn’t have to endure that. I was worried how I’d get them on anyway as I live alone so I was happy with that and cos I live alone I knew I’d not be sitting all day - lol - need a drink I had to get up and get it etc
I’m sure I’ve read on here that they want you completely pain free so you walk as much as poss so amt of painkillers probably relates to that as well. I know they kept asking and asking if I’d any pain from the minute theyd stitched me up lol .

thanks so much guyz i cried too must be the op and drugs this forum is soooo supportive id be lost without you.xx

I cried too, its a big op, was very nauseau on oxcoytin , by the Sunday morning had had enough and ask for a different pain relief, I refused to take my last dose of oxi, as they were giving it to me they also had to give antisickness drugs an hour later! But also found that I was not actually in pain no more!
We all heal and recover different, you will be fine. Hugs!!!

thank you so so much just having those words from ppl who have been there is just so encouraging

I am 6 months post op now, and enjoy being able to walk without pain is the best.
Early days felt tough at times but feel fantastic now, to be honest do not know where the time had gone.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I too had a blood pressure drop first time they tried to get me out of bed. They promptly laid me back down, and I guess they changed the meds because it never happened again. The woosiness could be due to the type of anesthesia used. If so it should wear off soon. I think it is perfectly normal for you to be afraid of wound especially if you have never had surgery before. Hope you feel better soon.
