Debating stoping sertraline as to many side effect

I started sertraline 3 weeks ago after 2 weeks it was increased to 100mg from 50. Now since Sunday I've felt really sick went back to gp yesterday n they reduced back to 50 but since last night I have been having watery diarreoa n it's still happening now 12hrs later I can't cope with these side effects will they wear off or should I go bk to gp?

Sorry you are goinghrough this. Yes, I would say to persevere. Do you take the sertraline with food? If not, that might help.

Hi Anna...I know it's not nice but this will wear off.  I would definitely suggest you hang in there...it may take a few weeks for things to even out but with any luck it will be worth it in the end.  Although I am  trying to wean myself off sertraline at the moment I did find them good. Don't forget u are putting something completely new into your system & ur body is just reacting to that. Stick at it & hopefully in a few weeks u will look back and say I'm glad I didn't give up!  Best wishes

Hi Anna   let me tell you about my experience when I first started     Doc put me on 50mg every thing ok no side effects then after 2 weeks upped me to 100mg  Bang diarrhea kicked in almost immediately  very violent at first and watery   this lasted for 3 weeks  and at end of my tether went back to docs who lowered it to 25mg  have been on sert for 3 months now and have very slowly gone back up to 100mg  diarrhea gone after initial 3 weeks  Doctor said i was so low on seratonin and thats why I got diarrhea   apparantly receptors from your stomach are linked to the brain   seratonin is made in the stomach   so  if you have non in the first place or you are not making enough then your stomach gets bombarded   it is a recognised side effect  and will go   please stick with the meds  try altering your dose down (with docs advise)  and go back up to where you need to be very slowly    good luck and try not to worry   it will pass
