Can depression lead to dementia and alzheimer?

I have never heard that depression can lead to any of those conditions.

I was reading some blog and there it was written depression in old age can cause dementia. As we can not rely on blog posts so I thought better to ask from you people.

According to WebMD depression is a minor risk factor for Dementia and Alzhemier's but there are things you can do to mitigate this risk factor.   I would consult WebMD and other highly regarded health web sites for further information.
