dentist

I am 19 weeks post tkr and have just visited the dentist. I have been having mouth ulcers and cold sores. My dentist says this is normal after a big operation. Has anyone else experienced this.?x

Yes they are coming after surgeries especially if you taking antibiotics. I get ulcers fever blisters a lot when I am on anabiotic's or when imune system is shot like after surgeries. I take L-Lysine as soon as they start. This keeps them from getting bad and they go away faster

Hi Joan,

Thanks for your posting, I am almost 19 weeks post tkr and up until this past month, I too had been having mouth ulcers.  Started about  5 weeks after op and I found it hard to get rid of them.  Never occurred to me about them being related to the op.

I have been doing ok, off meds and managed without walking aid after about 10 wks and managed the supermarkets fine.  This was a bonus to me as prior to my op I had used a mobility scooter for the past 4 yrs. My main problem at the moment is that when I bend my knee past a certain point, I get a sharp stabbing pain to the left of my knee.  It doesn't bother me when I walk or am I in pain at any time, only when I bend my knee past a certain point.  Does anyone else experience this and how long does it last?

It could be that your resistance is low or stressed out, both caused by your op.  Not very pleasant so hope you feel better soon

Hi Joan, yes I have a mouth ulcer at the moment, using mouth wash to ease the pain....  You always  have to tell the dentist you have had major surgery.

Hi doric1 I too have this pain. I keep thinking everything is getting back to 'normal' and then I do something and the pain shoots down the outside of my knee. I went to my daughter's last Saturday. She lives about 35 miles away and I had my knee bent all the way there and back. I really suffered the day after. I am going to Menorca next week so that should be fun. Don't know whether to take my stick.x

Hi again Joan,  Well at least I am not alone. I was beginning to think I was the only one with this problem.  I would certainly take your stick when you go to Menorca as a prop if nothing else - being on holiday, you will probably be walking more than you would normally and with the heat you will probably feel it more.  We going abroad in October and I shall certainly be taking mine so that if I have to have a stop, I can always lean on it.  Enjoy your holiday. x
