Depersonalisation for months? Is it even DP ?!

Hi guys,

I've posted on the forums before, but I'm really at my lowest now. Everyday is a struggle for me 'pretending' I'm okay. I wake up and instantly feel dazed, like when the first few beers go to you're head "Tipsy". My eyes see things and my brain takes a while to register what I am seeing. The feeling does not ever go, and am told that it's anxiety. I've had it before but now I've get like this for months without a break from it.

The best way to describe it, is I feel drunk all the time. I feel like I should not drive, have absoloultey no concentration, or interest in my hobbies, I just want the feeling to go. People tel me its DP, but it hasent stopped for months and it's making me go crazy?!

Please any advice ? Anyone suffer with it as long as this ? Is it even anxiety ?!?

It sounds a lot like DP my mom struggles with it for a year straight... I went through a few weeks of if

It could be depression. As you currently don't have an interest in things.  The drunk feeling could be due to the brain being sluggish due to depression.

Thanks for replying, I just need to know what's causing it and how to make it stop. I'm watching TV right now, but it's hard to even focus on it cuz I feel so spaced out / drunk

There's tons of information on the Internet about it and tips on how to "ground" yourself. I actually read somewhere that's it's our brains way of "protecting" us from harmful situations or something like that. I remember going through it.. I felt like I was on autopilot like I knew what I was doing but felt so out of it while doing it

Ive had this after I stoped smoking cannabis I felt like in a cockpit inside my head.

its type of anxiety disorder it happens when your in instant worry because it shuts down you frontal lobes you are not thinking with your mind but rather through your limbic system an auto resposive state to protect your from danger. the only thing you can do is before you go to sleep tell your self you will be cured in the morning. After you wake up you have to beleave this try to think about stuff deeper with some sence of logic, read , learn just make your brain work and it should switch back. the only thing is to push and beleave.trust me I had this for 7 months it was caused by my anxiety. your have to distract your self not by watching TV but rather reading about something anxiety is a good start.

Hey Alex

I feel for you man, my depersonalisation was exactly how you described it, to the letter. Constantly feeling drunk or tipsy, unable to focus on anything, weird hazy vision and felt like I was constantly in a dream and nothing around me felt real.

I thought I was going crazy, I thought I had a tumour I couldn't believe that it was all going on in my head. I went to the Doctors,

opticians so many things and then in the end I accepted it wasn't going anywhere and tried to live my life as best as I could. I started taking Sertraline to see if it helped and slowly but surely I started to feel more normal after about 3 weeks I felt like myself again but then I took a bad turn worrying about something else and it sent me back into it again.

Derealisation is a horrible, horrible thing. But I can tell you from my experience that it will go away. It may be hard to believe cause it may take months as mine did (about 4) but I think it's cause I accepted it and as uncomfortable as it is, it will not hurt you.

I also know what you're thinking, that what I experienced was nothing like what you are experiencing because in some weird way, you don't want to believe that anyone else has had what you have. You beleieve there's something physically wrong and no one fully understands what you're going through. But believe me, I do and others do too.

It's anxiety, it's depersonalisation/derealisation. But it can't hurt you and it will go away eventually but you need to accept it for what it is and get on with your life as best you can.

Good luck dude
