This a long shot. As Eileen knows I am on depo medrone injections rather than Pred. This makes it so difficult to organise anything I need my GP to agree to everything the lovely surgery nurse does. I am on 20 mg a fortnight but re my previous post I started Tai Chi and had a flair. After having an appointment with my NEW GP who just told me I would get over it.!! I told him we were going to Cuba in May and it worked out I would need an injection 4 days into my holiday. All he offered was to have 20 mg to last 3 weeks until my next injection and then another which will last 3 weeks until I get back. As I can hardly manage at the moment on 20 mg fortnightly I have no idea how I will even get on a plane, let alone enjoy the holiday on that regime. Any suggestions ?
Is there not another GP you can see in the practice? If it is to last longer you need more to start with. But I thought you did your own injections when you were away originally?
Will he allow you to administer it to yourself?
I am so envious of you that you get to visit Cuba. I was born there as an American citizen on the Navel base and we left there just before the bay of pigs incident which tells you how old I am. I've always wanted to go back but as I'm sure your aware US citizens were not allowed to travel there until recently. And now I am in to much pain to travel. I have pain from other sources then just PMR.

However I've been going to Cuba since 1973 on a regular basis in between our other southern trips. Were are you going in cuba it's such a big country?
Is it possible to get an injection there, they are great medically.
It always seems on every trip it's either my husband or i that us the medical system of the visting country and cuba was very good.
I hope you get straightened out i find when south i can reduce were most people are told not to but i do.

Me too - and a friend with PMR had a trip planned for her 70th birthday - while insurance was still cheap! They got airside - and her partner was taken ill, no way they could fly as it was norovirus or the like. He spent a week in bed when they got home. They got the costs back - but now her insurance is megabucks because she is 70!!!

No unfortunately this new GP won't let me have the drug. He has even alienated my consultant. He wrote to him after my last consultation saying he would be taking charge of my regime😞 I did see someone else in the practice when he was on holiday but was told that I should follow my own GP's advice!
Er- time for a complaint to the practice manager and above possibly. Is there another practice that is a possibility? And if YOU want the consultant - YOU want the consultant. Given you are pretty atypical I think it is needed.
Trouble is, you haven't got much time have you.
We are travelling about staying in Casas Particulares. Havana, Vinales, Trinidad, Santa Clara and Varadero.
Unfortunately ours is the best practice in the town. I would not want to move. My old GP who I was with retired. He had known me for 22 years and was willing to go along with anything I suggested. The new one was an A & E registrar who decided to become a GP. He is very cocky and talks to you as if you had no brain cells. I suspect he wants me off the injections asap as it is costing the practice as I need to see the nurse every two weeks and now I am on a low dose they only use half of the phial of the drug and the rest has to be discarded. When I asked to have the drug to do the injections myself he said he wouldn't take the responsibility!! Even though my old GP was fine with it. Does he think I'm going to sell the drug ha ha or inject the wrong amount or in the wrong place?
Bit of a prat! Maybe he got away with that in A&E. Practice manager time - they manage the money. You can't be any worse off.
Sounds like your staying in several locations due to the distance between varadero and havana not a day trip for sure.
In havana try to have lunch at Habana 61 even our private guide was supper impressed. He suggested his local and i insisted this and he was blown away.
If looking for private guides which i do same price or cheaper i can give you a name out of Havana. There is also a great guy out of varadero.

That would be brilliant. Do give me the details. Yes we are staying a few days in each venue. Right now I can hardly walk with poly pain in my thighs so a guide who can do car transport would be brilliant x
I have to say - I would take the details of what you need in the way of injections. I bet you could get an injection there if you discussed it with a guide.
