Depression, Anxiety, BiPolar

Going through depression is like being incarcerated in your own mind.  Why is then, when you feel better, you want to wean yourself off the meds.  I am totally the opposite, and when I feel better - I want to stay that way hence stay on the meds.  If you are prone to any depression, bipolar, anxiety, you know it will come back so why play russian roulette with your antidepressants.  I can see if you are extremely bothered by side effects, then perhaps your doctor needs to try a different approach in antidepressants.  Everyone is so afraid of staying on them, and there is no need.  When you hit that sweet spot of feeling better, Keep with it!

I couldn't agree more! I very stupidly came off mine and have had a year of hell! I'm starting to feel much better now and will happily stay on them for the rest of my life!

I am struggling now too, once I find that sweet spot I'll never take myself off meds. How are you now btw? I've read your old posts

I agree with you I stayed in Paxil cr for over 10 years until it pooped out

Good Move!

I found that sweet spot mid-November, why would I go off what has brought me back?  If it did stop working, I would be back at the doctor's office toute suite!

If it's not doing the job, Change!

The reason I want to come off, is because I'm worried one day it will poop out! Then it means trying a different med, and I'm sooo scared of antidepressants as u never know what side affects can happen?

Also because I've put on sooo much weight, don't get me wrong I'd rather be fat and happy than depression again .

Oh Lattifa - if you worry about an antidepressant not working, you're defeating yourself before you start.  I've stopped alot and had to move on to something different; finally, finding one that works.  Some side effects have been:  a little weight gain, urge incontinence and a little insomnia or waking up early.  I could blame these side effects on just getting older (65)!  However, am a firm believer in trying meds till you get it right.  Sooner, or later, they have to kick in and life is Good.  Remember that.  Gaining alot of weight is a perdiment.  It's all also attributed to what you eat and how much you exercise.
