Depression: what treatment

I’m struggling to function most days at the moment, go days without showering, not preparing meals just eating toast and cereal, cancelling on friends, not making appointment with GP or applying for benefits, not dealing with mail.

I spend most of my week in bed sleeping or messing get about on my phone.

I am in the process of coming off fluoxetine but am still on 10mg and also on 50mh chlomipramine and 40mg propranolol but I was like this before reducing the meds. I’ve studied CBT and mental health so I know the techniques I should be using but I have zero motivation and zero hope.

What should I do? 

Wow, such an interesting post. I'm sorry to read that you are struggling and are lacking motivation. Unfortunately, as you know this is a prime example of this "blanket of doom" namely depression! I started this post with the word wow because you mentioned that you studied mental health. As you know, this does not give you immunity. It can affect anyone no matter who or what they are. I implore you to take control and go back to your doctor. Please look after yourself. Keep me posted, Donna xxx

I can't offer a magic answer I'm afraid (and deep down you know the things you need to do already I'm sure)

However I have learned to be kind to myself, and if I'm going through a bad spell, don't beat yourself up about it . Let it wash over you and do what you need to do to get through - eat junk/ watch rubbish TV or whatever. But tell yourself as soon as you feel a tiny bit better you will do X or Y towards your wellbeing.

It may be that you need to get your medication right to give you a boost. Talk to your doctor as soon as you feel able to go and make sure you explain you havnt been attending appointments because of how low you are feeling.
