I've had issues with depression and mental health for most of my life . I have over the last few months (probably started around Christmas) become gradually more depressed.
Things are getting more and more difficult. I was seeing a psychologist for trauma issues who was concerned about my mood and made me an appointment with a psychiatrist. All this took a long time. The psychologist has left and as far as I'm concerned this was at not at a great time when I needed support. I feel vulnerable and abandoned and she also agreed that I needed longer therapy but have had my NHS ration. Anyway, my depression is getting worse and worse and the consultant psychiatrist who was pleasant but no help just said she'll see me again in 9 weeks. I feel increasingly unable to function. I have no friends or family for support and totally alone. I think about suicide a lot too . I see no point in seeing the psychiatrist again and I feel I'll probably be dead by then anyway.
Hi,
We note from a recent post which you have made to our forum that you may be experiencing thoughts around self-harm. If we have misinterpreted your comments then we apologise for contacting you directly. But if you are having such thoughts then please note that you are not alone in this, and there are people out there that can help.
If you are having these suicidal thoughts then we strongly recommend you speak to someone who may be able to help. The Samaritans offer a safe space where you can talk openly about what you are going through. They can help you explore your options, understand your problems better, or just be there to listen.
Their contact details are on our patient information leaflet here: https://patient.info/health/dealing-with-suicidal-thoughts, which also offers lots of other advice on how you can access the help you may need.
If you are having such thoughts then please do reach out to the team at the Samaritans (or the other people detailed in our leaflet) who will understand what you're going through and will be able to help.
If you are based outside of the UK.
The Samaritans is a UK based charity, but they also have suggestions for how you can access help in other countries.

Hi Sarah, I'm sorry to hear about the depression. I can't imagine how hard it is without support of friends or family, facing it alone. Pleased you have come on here. I understand the NHS only offer a certain amount of sessions, is it possible to see a therapist privately?
