Depression

Hi all haven't been on for a couple of weeks I have had a couple of good weeks and today I feel very alone I have my first councilling session on Wednesday I try to stay positive but when I am on my own I start to feel alone again then my mind starts to race and all the negative throungts come back I try to take my mind of things and read or play a game but cannot consecrate been at work every day as well been cycling to but when it comes to relax I cant

I know what you mean.  It can be so hard to get out of the thoughts and into relaxing the body.   One technique is to lie down comfortably, tense up toes, as tight as you can then let go, then toes and feet, then gradually all the way up tensing as tight as you can all your muscles, even your facial muscles, then let go.  This should take about 10 to 15 m inutes.  If notthing else it usually hel ps me pin point exactly where in my body I am holding the most tension.  Also yoga is a good one for relaxation, it gets you out of your thoughts and into your body.  Good luck

Hey Julie! How are you feeling today? 

Being alone is hard and my psychologist recommended to go and sit in a coffee shop or at a book store or whereever there are people around. I know it sounds weird and at first I felt silly, but it totally worked for me. I was there on my own with a book or a cross word puzzle, but I had people around me and the feeling of loneliness went away.

For relaxing I use Mindfullness guided meditations. They really help me turn off the brain and just be in the moment. You could try that. It's supposed to be the best thing for depression, but needs practice. My favourites are the meditation CDs from John Kabatt Zinn. I think you can download them or get them on amazon.

Wonderful! And always remember - here in this forum (and in other forums too) you are never alone! That's why I love them. On the worst days when you dont want to go anywhere there is at least someone online to chat with! Doesnt make me feel as if I was the ONLY PERSON IN THE WORLD with Depression.
